Im kind of at the point where I feel like the people accusing everyone of not voting green/ndp of being neoliberals are doing just as much harm to the public discourse as maple magats.
Like can we please criticize Carney's policies without this garbage framing?
For real, I tried having a conversation elsewhere about our politics and govt in general and the person I was talking to just kept repeating that the Carney Liberals hate freedom and shit.
I just want to discuss how we actually get better representation, and these idiots are all yelling into the void about how they hate the Libs, without even a single syllable spent on who would be doing better for us and how we can get them in power.
At this point I just assume most people are at least far right politically, and I'm so far left there's zero point in even having a discussion with them. It's exhausting.
I think the general level of ignorance has been obfuscated by social media's polarization of public discourse. AI has only increased the number of people who espouse opinions they did not form themselves.
Agreed. Social media and now LLMs are pushing ideas onto people that they haven't spent any time considering at all for sure. Doesn't stop them from being completely consumed by the propaganda being fed to them at every moment.
The political spectrum of your average person has definitely shifted pretty far to the right. The LPC is centre right to right. NDP are center it seems, and the Cons haven't had anything but a far right to extreme right idea in decades. Greens can't even figure out their own leadership so they may as well have no stances currently.
I would love to see actual left wing parties, and regulation of the tech world. But as far as I can tell the future holds Datacenters for military use and that seems to be about it. And this is true regardless of which country you live in. All of them are obsessed with automating ourselves out of existence.
And none of that even touches on our complete and utter lack of action on climate world wide. I'm unsure what the Epstein class has in store for the future that isn't the obvious death of billions of people so they can go hide in their bunkers until they starve. They seem convinced that "AI" and robots are going to be sufficient to survive without all of us, but I've yet to see anything resembling actual AI at all, and the robots aren't "replace labour" level yet.
