2020 was a great year for me personally, bad year for the world in general though.
Honestly I completed a lot of personal/life milestones that year. They probably would have been nicer without the backdrop of a global pandemic, but oh well
It's a diary of Clive Wearing who suffers from retrograde amnesia, unable to form long-term memories since 1985.
He's 88 now, and I'm assuming still filling page after page with a record of the time when he, from his point of view, finally woke up from his affliction and began to live anew.
Edit: That is to say, it's a Memento prequel, if anything.
Maybe I can ease the existential horror a little bit by providing this bit of a 2005 interview - it seems it's not that terrible of a fate. More melancholy than outright horror:
You're the first human beings I've seen, the three of you. Two men and one lady. The first ... people I've seen since I've been ill. No difference between day and night. No thoughts at all. No dreams. Day and night, the same – blank. Precisely like death.
Is it very hard?
No. It's exactly the same as being dead, which is not difficult, is it? To be dead is easy. You don't do anything at all. You can't do anything, when you are dead. It's been the same. Exactly.
Do you miss your old life?
Yes. But I've never been conscious to think that. So I've never been bored or upset. I've never been anything at all, it's exactly the same as death. No dreams even. Day and night, the same.
When you miss your old life, you say, 'Yes, I miss my old life', what do you miss?
Day and night, the same – blank. Precisely like death.

And that bit about missing being a musician and in love. Whoof.
I thought this was particularly interesting:
To be dead is easy. You don't do anything at all. You can't do anything, when you are dead. It's been the same. Exactly.
It's an interesting perspective on life and death, and what living means. And while he feels like a living dead person, the people who's lives he's touched have likely been enriched by his presence, by the person he is, here and now. It reminds me of a line from Don Hertzfelt's World of tomorrow:
"Live well and live broadly. You are alive and living now. Now is the envy of all of the dead."
For what it's worth, the idea of "go with the flow" could help. Having too much expectations could lead to anxiety and disappointment. Just do whatever you want and do what you need, but don't expect a deadline or arbitrary purpose. You do it because you enjoy doing it, not to seek validation from others.
