A few weeks ago I say a hedgehog in my garden at night. I threw a piece of bread at it. The bread was still there the next morning. Ungratefull little piece of shit felt too good for my leftovers!
Hedgehogs get almost no nutrition from bread, so will only eat it when they absolutely have to.
They prefer creepy crawlies etc. If you want to feed them then some meal worms are good for them. And cheap too.
The local cats would wander in to our garden just to steal our hedgehog food.
So I built a little tunnel type thing out of timber offcuts that is just right for the hedgehog but too small for the cats.
Calci worms are better for them, meal worms have a negative effect on their health, too much phosphorus and too little calcium, leading the hedgehog to draw calcium from its own skeleton
I give crows peanuts and they sometimes bury them to save them for later. Recently, I believe a crow buried a peanut for me in a planter at my house. It's now growing into a peanut plant.
