However, The Times reports all the deputies escaped criminal charges in the incident and somewhere along the line, one of the deputies was later identified as a member of the Grimp Reapers deputy gang.

Time to plug an excellent podcast limited series: A Tradition of Violence. This is reporting on LA sheriff gangs. Literal gangs composed of police / deputies.

Here's the articles by the same author: A Tradition of Violence. I always meant to read this, after hearing an interview with the author, but never got around to it. Once it was in podcast form, I listened and was blown away. These thugs operate somewhat out in the open and get away with it.
