The newsletter-hosting site Substack advertises itself as the last, best hope for civility on the internet—and aspires to a bigger role in politics in 2024. But just beneath the surface, the platform has become a home and propagator of white supremacy and anti-Semitism. Substack has not only been hosting writers who post overtly Nazi rhetoric on the platform; it profits from many of them.
We must somehow choose between that article, sourced from Daily Caller News Foundation, and The Lancet and the rest of scientific research. For me, it's not really hard to know.
Frustrating, right? The Times has been rolling out this anti-feature to random users, and apparently once you're selected it'll always demand logging in. You will be spammed, you will be sold. I set up a dummy email, so they'll be spamming and selling the ether.
Pre-Trump, I thought I grokked how rotten everything was, but watching the one-by-one asskissing collapse of the few institutions I'd sorta respected — like the NAS — is srsly depressing.
Trump said Minnesota did it to themselves, so now they're probably doing it to other states. That damned Minnesota! Or maybe Trump shouldn't have DOGE'd America's cyberdefences.
Well, of fucking course they knew. I knew it, decades ago, and I'm nobody with no degree. Anyone with a functional noggin knew it. It wasn't ever a secret.
Didn't know there was still a scent of it anywhere, but when I was a kid (50+ years ago) Tacoma indeed flat-out stank. Even driving through, you'd roll up your windows and close the vents, and it was all over Tacoma, not just in some tiny enclaves of stink.
If there's no evidence beyond an anonymous tip, this is the wrong response. Make enough anonymous tips, and every kid in America could be required to sit for an interview, over and over.

Other options include Ghost, Beehiv, Wordpress, Blogger, self-publishing, on and on. Nobody's forced to hang out with Nazis; it's a choice.

This is a pittance — about $3,000 per victim, for having their life's work copied and distributed to, effectively, anyone and everyone on Earth.
