If anyone wants to know, "Beweglichertorpfostenkrieg" is literally just "moving goal posts war" disguised as a german compound word.

Sheeple@lemmy.world · 55 pts · 2y (9 replies)

As a German, this word was compounded incorrectly anyway. Adjectives don't get compounded. So it would be "Beweglicher Torpfostenkrieg"

Look guys, I found the Grammer Nazi.

Ooops@kbin.social · 11 pts · 2y (1 reply)

It's actually quite easy to correct, so why not mention it?

Make that "moving goal post war" a "goal post movement war" and now it's all nouns and valid to compound them.

German...Grammer...Nazi...

Sir, this is a Noncredible Wendy's, not a Highly Credible Outback Steakhouse.

Turun@feddit.de · 22 pts · 2y

This is wrong. That would describe a certain type of war, but specify that the war is movable.

I think the "Torpfostverschiebekrieg" mentioned in another comment would be the best solution.

SubArcticTundra@lemmy.ml · 9 pts · 2y (3 replies)

But surely wouldn't that imply the existence of such thing as a 'goal post war'? Because the term is meant to mean '(moving goal post) (war)', and not '(moving) (goal post war)'

FleetingTit@feddit.de · 4 pts · 2y (2 replies)

Beweglicher-Torpfosten-Krieg looks about right.

SubArcticTundra@lemmy.ml · 1 pts · 2y

Ah yes that makes sense

On the other hand in Finnish that's can be one word: maalitolpansiirtosota. No sense implied.

Gork@lemm.ee · 3 pts · 2y

Hmm they can try using that as the new Паляниця (Palanitsya).

Sharpiemarker@feddit.de · 2 pts · 2y (4 replies)

Is it not a German compound word?

wert_straffer@feddit.de · 21 pts · 2y

„Torpfostenbewegungskrieg“ would be correct. I‘d prefer „Torpfostverschiebekrieg“ though.

Sheeple@lemmy.world · 16 pts · 2y (2 replies)

It's incorrect actually! We don't compound adjectives (Beweglicher)

Sharpiemarker@feddit.de · 4 pts · 2y

Interesting! Thank you for the explanation.

ParsnipWitch@feddit.de · 1 pts · 2y

We do it though... it's just not correct.

FleetingTit@feddit.de · 4 pts · 2y (2 replies)

It's 5th generation warfare because it takes 5 generations to recover from it

Cort@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 2y

Huh, I just thought it was an autocorrect of "5th grade"

Putin is that kid on the playground that kept announcing new rules every time he was losing.

archonet@lemmy.world · 23 pts · 2y (2 replies)

It's not a retreat, it's a blitzkrieg in reverse.

P.S For those who don't know, "Ukrop" is slur for "ukrainian" which also means "dill" (like the herb)

missveeronica@lemmynsfw.com · 3 pts · 2y (1 reply)

As a Richmond VA native, we had a grocery store chain called Ukrops. I didn't realize it was insult in Ukraine.

kSPvhmTOlwvMd7Y7E@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 2y

oh it's an insult even in Russia now...
