Would be nice to have a few iOS-only apps that are designed entirely around Apple’s UX, like Apollo. Please Christian, don’t leave us…

BioDriver@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 3y (1 reply)

Mlem is very Apollo reminiscent

Dark_Blade@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 3y

Yeah I’ve used it, and it’s good. The text editor is better on Memmy though, more like Apollo. Search too.

quinten@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 3y (8 replies)

Try wefwef.app in Safari and add it to your homescreen!

Dark_Blade@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 3y (2 replies)

Yeah I tried it, and it worked fine…but I’d still prefer a native app from an amazing dev, y’know? Christian added so much to the Apollo app…sad to see it all go to waste.

quinten@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 3y (1 reply)

Totally agree. I prefer a native app too. But hey, its something.

Dark_Blade@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 3y

Agreed, something’s always better than nothing.

waatchaa@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 3y

This website is really cool! Thanks for the link

b_crussin@kbin.social · 1 pts · 3y

This genuinely blew my mind, it’s so smooooth

Briguy24@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 3y (2 replies)

Dumb question but I have a Lemmy account, when I tried to use my login info there it didn't work. Do I need to create an account there also and link them?

quinten@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 3y (1 reply)

Should work fine. Have you selected the right instance? Lemmy.world?

Briguy24@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 3y

I did but I'm going to try again. Double checked my password also.

Lilkev@kbin.social · 5 pts · 3y (1 reply)

Artemis is taking large inspiration from Apollo, while still being unique so it's not an exact clone. The magazine is /m/ArtemisApp!

Dark_Blade@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 3y

I’ve heard of it, just waiting for betas to open up a bit. Even then, however, the fact that it’s cross-platform means it’ll probably not be perfectly in-line with Apple’s HIG. Apollo almost feels like Apple designed it, which is part of why I enjoy it so much.

Or gitlab and Forgejo. Insert other open source git platform.

MickSalley@lemmy.beyondcombustion.net · 2 pts · 3y (1 reply)

What is the issue with GitHub? Owned by MS? GitLab is self-hosted and open sourced.

art@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 3y

Only a few issues with Github. They are proprietary and have censored some projects. However, I just want to highlight the open and free options to host your projects.

drcobaltjedi@programming.dev · 6 pts · 3y

Go FOSS where you can

I'm working on mine too (iOS)

Missing a few key features for now, but hopefully, I'll be able to Testflight+OpenSource by the end of next week.

n0rpie@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 3y (1 reply)

This looks beautiful

Q320@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 3y

thanks!

Justus61@lemmy.ml · -1 pts · 3y (3 replies)

What’s the minimum required iOS version? I fear that I’ll be iOS 16 and up.

Q320@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 3y (2 replies)

Indeed, because I'm using some of the recent SwiftUI APIs to handle app's navigation. What iOS version are you on?

Justus61@lemmy.ml · 0 pts · 3y

iOS 15.5 beta 4. And I know that there are people on even earlier versions due to several different reasons. That’s really unfortunate but understandable if it’s easier that way.

albedosaur@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 3y

Thanks for this!

I believe Memmy is also planning on supporting Android soon if it doesn’t already. I’ve been super impressed with it so far!

Karl_L@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 3y (1 reply)

I'm really liking Thunder and Liftoff. Having a hard time choosing between the two.

KosmosMonk@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 3y

Same! I prefer compact view in Thunder, but it lacks the automatic dark theme switch, and an option to change overall colour (I can't stand that much purple!)

Colin1224@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 3y (1 reply)

Liftoff is in the Play Store now.

Generator@lemmy.pt · 2 pts · 3y

Noice

tamtt@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 3y

Of the play store apps I think connect is the best one so far. Very customisable.

Generator@lemmy.pt · 5 pts · 3y

That's a lot of cross-posted

Ximo@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 3y (3 replies)

I'm happy to see Slide make a lemmy client, it's the client I use until a greedy CEO to the core thought with his wallet

HangoverTuesday@kbin.social · 3 pts · 3y (1 reply)

He isn't greedy. If he were greedy, he'd have figured out a way to keep way more money. The truth is, he is incompetent. Over half a billion dollars in revenue, for a company who's only product is a website that costs a few hundred grand a year to run, and he can't figure out in over a decade how to make money from this.

Ximo@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 3y

Yes, you are rigth, he is truly an incompetent.

silicon_reverie@kbin.social · 2 pts · 3y

It doesn't look like this Slide is built by the same dev. It's just inspired by Slide for Reddit.

Nando@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 3y (1 reply)

Right now the best is Mlem for me.

Elcapitan786@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 3y

Mlem is let down by the scrolling, way smoother on Memmy and Liftoff that i am also testing.

Mlem has the best font size though

alejandro@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 3y (6 replies)

Sucks that all of the iOS apps require getting an invite to TestFlight, including joining some discord server to ask for it. It doesn’t help that Lemmy on mobile Safari sucks, so being an iOS user on Lemmy requires either a lot of patience or a high level of commitment.

It’s nice that there are a lot being worked on, but I feel like whichever hits the appstore first will win.

hideyoshi@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 3y

Getting into the beta for Memmy is about as easy as it gets. Just download TestFlight and click on the invite link: https://testflight.apple.com/join/6jaRU6rD

KuroJ@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 3y

You can join just by clicking the TestFlight link as long as the beta isn’t full. Here’s all the ones available for iOS currently.

I also just tried the wefwef mobile and it works perfectly.

Honestly you can’t really go wrong with any of those options as a iOS user

Lemmy on mobile Safari sucks

Have you tried wefwef.app? I've only looked at it, but it seems like a pretty lightweight handheld-first web interface.

dani@kbin.social · 2 pts · 3y

Love wefwef - started using it 2 days ago and so far used it exclusively since. Was using Memmy & Mlem before that and they’re good. Wefwef - what’s up with that name though?

gravityslave@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 3y

Does anyone know if there is a browser extension like RES (Reddit Enhancement Suite)? I really used the navigation bar with the ability to group communities.

MickSalley@lemmy.beyondcombustion.net · 3 pts · 3y

Why Tailwind?

No good reason. Initially I wanted to try out a seemingly-good CSS framework. It turned out to be awful, and so did Tailwind.

My advice? Never use Tailwind. It's a waste of time.

Are apps site-exclusive or federated as well? Will I be able to use a Lemmy app with a kbin account?

Lilkev@kbin.social · 1 pts · 3y (1 reply)

Artemis is being built with both kbin and Lemmy support! The magazine is /m/ArtemisApp.

KotoWhiskas@kbin.social · 1 pts · 3y

Works better than both Reddit mobile and Reddit mobile web

NotAPenguin@kbin.social · -22 pts · 3y

The mobile site for kbin works quite well, you can install it as a PWA from your browser and it works much like a normal app.

EyesEyesBaby@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 3y

Memmy looks good, thanks. (Better than Mlem imho)

oct_opus@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 3y

I'm using Liftoff on IOS and it works great

Mautobu@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 3y

This is incredibly helpful. Thank you.

anthimatter@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 3y

Awesome post, thank you! Sync for Lemmy is exciting. It was always my favourite reddit app.

cabbages@kbin.social · 1 pts · 3y

I don't know what my problem is but liftoff isn't showing up in my android play store. I'm trying Connect instead.
NM went to git and got the link from there

dani@kbin.social · 1 pts · 3y

The new TestFlight link for Liftoff is now available (they switched developer account so new versions need this link)
