My microwave doesn't have buttons. Can someone see if 199 is three minutes and 19 seconds, or 159 seconds?

Mozingo@lemmy.world · 25 pts · 2y (3 replies)

Just tested it on mine, it seems you wait 159 seconds lol

Insane! I love it

Is 179 the same? Or anything over 159?

Mozingo@lemmy.world · 19 pts · 2y

Basically the smaller two digits always count as seconds and when they hit zero, it subtracts 1 from the larger two digits and carries 60 seconds over.

This hurt my brain so badly I had to walk over to my microwave to figure it out.

I was like "are people that dumb that they'll type in 100 seconds and the microwave just changes it to a minute instead"

But then I realized I was the idiot.

Your comment made me laugh, well done

I had to hold my hand up and type it into an imaginary microwave to get it too lol

You guys use more than just the +30 button? Weird.

my latest microwave only has a knob you can turn to set the time. the microwave starts a couple seconds after you stop turning the knob. i’m in heaven

mypasswordis1234@lemmy.world · 17 pts · 2y (3 replies)

99 is 0:99 so 99 seconds. 100 is 1:00 so 1 minute so 60 seconds

killeronthecorner@lemmy.world · 12 pts · 2y (2 replies)

199 is 2m39s yes total normal nothing to see here

alienzx@feddit.nl · 3 pts · 2y

But 139 is a minute less....

affiliate@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 2y

this is truly terrible. they’ve gone and made 99 = 139

You see, it's because two digit numbers follow newtonian physics while three digit numbers follow quantum physics

southsamurai@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 2y

Nah, it's 120 seconds for me

ech@lemm.ee · 14 pts · 2y

Don't be mixing number systems with different bases, y'all.

That's called Microsoft math

OpenStars@kbin.social · 5 pts · 2y

99 > 100, seems legit

bastian_5@sh.itjust.works · 3 pts · 2y (1 reply)

If you type 9,999 your house burns down

HurlingDurling@lemm.ee · 3 pts · 2y

Typing 666 could do it as well depending on what you have in the microwave
