Except that research suggests that loss due to shrinkage hasn’t changed.

Yeah, shrinkage also includes lost merchandise from non-crime sources. I would bet if you took a look at which stores are closing its the property values of their lots and the rising cost of their leases that are causing them to be unprofitable
