After you’re in the field for long enough, you start to realise that the structure and flaws in the application mimic the structure and flaws of the reporting structure of the organisation

Age verification laws are never actually about the children.

Hell, porn sites wanted an XXX tld so that content filters would be easy.

Fuck it, an html extension labeling sites as “over 18” would work wonders by allowing browsers to determine whether this content was for you or not….

Both of those things were tried and failed…. And they’re both really easy! And functional! And privacy respecting!!!

Why do they instead choose laws that require the collection of massive amounts of personal data and then the ability to tie someone’s porn habits directly to an individual? It’s overly complicated and really painful and really invasive!

Except that the invasiveness is the point.

This isn’t about protecting the children, it’s about control.

It always is.

Otherwise they’d start with easier and more logical steps before jumping to this.
