I'm trying my hand at the Handsome Chris Pullover after successfully (nearly) completing a colourwork jumper.
I feel like I'm going to jinx myself but it's actually been easier than I thought so far and no major issues. I've had to ladder down a couple of times to fix a cable but I can manage that. Only on the back panel about half way through so we'll see how I feel when it comes to the neck at the front!
The pattern seems a bit bare when talking about the arms, does anyone have any experience with making this and have any ideas/advice on the arms?

That looks gorgeous, but oh so much cabling. I'm amazed at how even your tension is.

Thank you, that's really kind. It is a lot of cables lol and I was worried about handling it. To be honest though once you do a few repeats it's fairly easy to keep track of what's going on

No sleeve advice, but it's looking flipping amazing so far! The second best thing about cables is how complicated and impressive they look to non-knitters while actually being pretty easy, but even so that's a lot of cables 😅

Thank you! Yes it's quite fun being all casual about doing something that looks complicated. I am pleased I can cable without a needle though and don't think this would be possible without that technique!

Absolutely beautiful! Nice yarn bowl, too

I have a question about the yarn bowl. Does the yarn need to be rewound in order to properly use the bowl?
TheFlopster@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 2y
Not OP, but the answer is, it depends. If you're using a proper (read: slightly more expensive and probably non-acrylic) yarn
skeinhank, then yes, it needs to be wound into a ball first, then put into the bowl. The bowl keeps your ball from rolling around everywhere. If you're using a cheaper type of center pull skein (no judgment!) then no, not really. But if you're using a center pull skein, then you don't really need the bowl. Your yarn won't roll.

I've always seen them as sorta marketed for helping control tension. Are they useful for that, or just to keep the yarn in place?
TheFlopster@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 2y
Oh, I'm not sure. I've never noticed that the bowl made a difference in my tension, but I can't afford the fancy yarn very often, so I rarely use one.

I've not rewound this yarn, I'm just taking the label off and getting the end. I use the bowl to have something to put the yarn in basically and because I think it looks nice. I'm terrible for buying hobby bits because they look nice, I have so many pins and stitch markers and things.
Like another person said though, if it was one of the fancy yarns that comes in a hank (I think they're called) I'd need to wind it first so it was a ball before being able to use it.

You're right, I meant hank in my first paragraph. Fixed!

Is it a really large yarn bowl then? I've tried using a yarn bowl and I find my yarn doesn't spin properly and just pops out or gets stuck :/

I mean it does still jump out sometimes, depends how hard I pull!
Just measured it and it's 7 inches across/diameter so fairly large yes
LittleTarsier@lemmy.ca · 1 pts · 2y
Oh yes that's much bigger than the one I have. Makes sense. Thank you :)

Lovely cables! I keep telling myself I'm going to make this, and then don't. One day!

Thank you very much! I practiced a fair bit before trying this pattern. You should give it a go!
