Still beats flying!

Early 20th century engineering was like the Cambrian Explosion, trying out all kinds of whacky shit until settling into the practical forms we know today.

Rolando@lemmy.world · 18 pts · 2y

I suspect that in 2123 they'll say the same thing about the internet of the past 25 years.

Got_Bent@lemmy.world · 32 pts · 2y (11 replies)

So much awful spamming across Lemmy this morning. All from accounts made minutes ago.

Edit: Referring to the comments, not the post.

I don't see any. Removed by admins?

Got_Bent@lemmy.world · 18 pts · 2y (9 replies)

Probably. It was multiple posts of a naked guy bending over and spreading.

Coelacanth@feddit.nu · 14 pts · 2y (3 replies)

Still showing for me. Seen both the aforementioned bent over dude and some incomprehensible AI generated word salad spam, both from users on lemmy.blahaj.zone.

PugJesus@kbin.social · 9 pts · 2y (1 reply)

Unfortunately, I can't see it on my Lemmy.world or Kbin account, so I can't do anything about it. I banned a fellow like that not too long ago.

ArcticAmphibian@lemmus.org · 4 pts · 2y

Was it 'soon' or 'soot' or something like that?

Wutchilli@feddit.de · 8 pts · 2y

I think some people try to get the trans friendly lemmy.blahaj.zone defederated as much as possible. Those kinds of attacks are sadly a weakpoint in the fediverse.

boogetyboo@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 2y (1 reply)

The gore dead baby photo directly under it was worse. I reported the one I saw in a different thread and I've blocked the user. Don't need to see that again.

Got_Bent@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 2y

Glad I missed that one. Yikes.

A_Union_of_Kobolds@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 2y (2 replies)

Goatse?

Got_Bent@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 2y

It wasn't THE goatse but same idea

Braking looks like fun!

LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 2y (4 replies)

Does it engine brake or I suppose it could use modern style brakes had they been around.

DrunkenPirate@feddit.de · 5 pts · 2y (3 replies)

Exactly me thought. How would a full emergency break look alike? The man still wheeling inside the wheel?

snooggums@kbin.social · 4 pts · 2y

yes

ProstheticBrain@sh.itjust.works · 3 pts · 2y

I'd imagine it starts with the rider's feet being planted firmly on the ground and ends with them exiting through the back of their pelvis.

Everythingispenguins@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 2y

Basically you can't emergency brake. If you do then you get to do your best impression of a hamster going down a hill.

Honestly I think that is one of the main reasons these never caught on. But yes you can still buy one if you want. They never fully left.

100_percent_a_bot@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 2y

Try spinning, that's a good trick

“Ah, General Kenobi!”

One of the rare times I’ve seen a good quality image of a monowheel. Everything else is either low resolution or the subject was too far away.

MadMadBunny@lemmy.ca · 7 pts · 2y

Wait—how old is Daniel Craig exactly?

guyrocket@kbin.social · 5 pts · 2y (2 replies)

Confused by the steering wheel. I wonder how/if that works.

snooggums@kbin.social · 5 pts · 2y

None of it works well.

Everythingispenguins@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 2y

I believe that it controlled the tilt. Notice how his seat is still upright. Modern ones don't do that you have to turn by leaning, which is probably a better system anyway.

ReallyKinda@kbin.social · 3 pts · 2y

It looks more futuristic than the vehicles we drive now:( We let this guy down.

be_excellent_to_each_other@kbin.social · 2 pts · 2y

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKpnTXoF14s There are modern versions also, but the fact that this was in the 30s is half of what makes it so damn cool.
