Saw this earlier today and thought it was helpful understanding how it works from a high level. Nothing about Freenet though (: https://protonvpn.com/blog/what-is-i2p/

Freenet has a kind of shared network storage for websites that i2p doesn't have. To host a site on i2p you need a server.
This has pros and cons. On freenet you can only have static websites.
