This is the recycle bin, not trash.

Apple apparently has the rights to call something "trash" and didn't like that windows was doing the same.

As a British Mac user who upgraded to a new machine that could run a much newer macOS, I was surprised last year to discover that over here it’s now called the Bin.

Did you set the OS to UK English?

DJDarren@thelemmy.club · 1 pts · 2y

Yep.

Viking_Hippie@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 2y

Smart of them to patent the word people would otherwise use to describe them!

Over 70% of all recycling becomes standard trash but with a bigger carbon footprint. I also call recycling bins trash cans.

Anything talking about the evolution of the "Trash Can Icon" should be starting with the Apple version that Microsoft copied.

In 2022 it was still Twitter.

ilinamorato@lemmy.world · 20 pts · 2y (1 reply)

For almost everyone in the world it's still Twitter today. Nobody calls it X except Musk and Linda Y. Even the weird tech bros still call it Twitter.

Lemminary@lemmy.world · 19 pts · 2y

Even Twitter calls itself Twitter. Almost as if they half-heartedly made the switch just to shut the boss's yap.

FinallyDebunked@slrpnk.net · -8 pts · 2y (2 replies)

Futures generations will call it x

mordred@lemmy.world · 19 pts · 2y

Implying it will survive a generation

Hiro8811@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 2y

I still don't give enough shit to care how you refer to shit. X, Twitter or greatest propaganda machine, at the end of the day it's the same platform

I like the 2006 icon. The round metal mesh can with the classic recycling icon speaks to the utilitarian in me.

Lemminary@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 2y

Same, and I liked the flair of 2001. Good ol' times.

spudwart@spudwart.com · 17 pts · 2y

Okay, but that's the Recycle Bin tho.

And honestly, that's more accurate to reddit than Xitter anyway.

bigkahuna1986@lemmy.ml · 14 pts · 2y

Trash? Don't you mean the folder where my uncle puts all his documents that he still needs?

smeg@feddit.uk · 12 pts · 2y

Trash

Do you mean the Recycle Bin?

stoy@lemmy.zip · 9 pts · 2y

Wrong year for Twitter.

0x4E4F@sh.itjust.works · 8 pts · 2y

1995 --> 20 years later --> still the same icon

I like the 2006 one. But I'm biased I had a similar one irl

The_v@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 2y

That is one thing I dislike about all of the modern OS's is the flat bland style. It's boring and completely unnecessary with modern hardware.

_number8_@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 2y (2 replies)

i recently bought a new device so i had to install the fresh / current versions of my apps. very annoying because god the twitter icon looks like fucking garbage now

SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world · 12 pts · 2y

You didn't have to install Twitter.

BruceTwarzen@kbin.social · 10 pts · 2y

The funniest thing about the renaming stunt is that it's still either called twitter, x/twitter, xitter or x formally known as twitter.

Samsy@lemmy.ml · 4 pts · 2y

I miss the 2001 icon. Those silly times installing windows again and again every day.

pewpew@feddit.it · 4 pts · 2y

The trash icon before: trash bin; The trash icon now: the OS as a whole

yamapikariya@lemmyfi.com · 2 pts · 2y

2001 was peak

tygerprints@kbin.social · 2 pts · 2y

8 ) I love this. It's so true! I don't really understand why anyone would voluntarily join twitter or be a part of it anymore. It seems like a deliberate act of self sabotage and self hate.

Evil_Shrubbery@lemm.ee · 1 pts · 2y

Some trash, as og icons suggested, can be recycled. Not Twatter tho.

thorbot@lemmy.world · -5 pts · 2y (1 reply)

Congrats, you have just mocked the easiest target of 2023, I hope you feel smart

Track_Shovel@slrpnk.net · 4 pts · 2y

I do, thanks
