Man, I am so excited to see Lando and the updated McLaren have a great weekend. It looks to have us potentially in the mix with Merc and AM. Psyched to see Oscar get the new car next weekend too.

saltesc@lemmy.world · 15 pts · 3y

Being faster than the Merc and keeping tow on the Ferrari was great to see. Silverstone is going to be interesting. Upgrades proved they're good at high speed; how will they handle with the turns coming into Becketts?.

I noticed all weekend Norris did a lot of deep braking into wider entries. It looked like understeer but snapped in late and powered out fast.

Edit: Oh, not to forget a mention for all the McLaren fans in the crowd sporting papaya shirts and flares. Austria turning it up for McLaren once again. And congrats to that Max guy :P

bhmnscmm@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 3y

Unless Alpine improves McLaren have a good chance of catching them in the constructor's.

regal@kbin.social · 1 pts · 3y

Fingers crossed, it would be great to have Lando in the mix again

godolphins13@lemmy.world · 48 pts · 3y (3 replies)

Maybe for the future use a generic title and have the results table/image attached? Something like "Austria Grand Prix 2023 Results". Just until we get spoiler tags.

FlyLikeAMouse@feddit.uk · 33 pts · 3y (2 replies)

If this was any other season I might agree with you. 🤣

godolphins13@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 3y

Lol fair this year not even really a spoiler!

godolphins13@lemmy.world · 0 pts · 3y

Lol fair this year not even really a spoiler!

bwoah@lemmy.world · 45 pts · 3y (8 replies)

What a flex to do the last pit for the fastest lap

saltesc@lemmy.world · 21 pts · 3y (3 replies)

That was class. Not needed at all for the DC, RBR already has the CC and Perez is banking the point, and all it takes is a grumpy lug nut to lose those few extra seconds.... "Nah, let's sweep again."

Also, hell yeah for Lando's DotD. Austria giving us awesome racing once again.

bhmnscmm@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 3y

Imagine how Charles felt seeing Max come out of the pits and weaving to get heat into the tires. The dominance of RBR in all regards is impressive.

LettuceTurnipTheBeet@lemm.ee · 7 pts · 3y (1 reply)

Really happy Lando got the DOTD and not Checo ā€œBin it in quali and almost make up for it during the raceā€ Perez

bhmnscmm@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 3y

Lando was probably happy to see all the Papaya supporters in the stands too lol

Accomplished_Edge@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 3y

Completing those side-quests!

CheeseToastie@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 3y

So mad to see, if you're behind Verstappen and you see him do that, it's gotta hit you a little bit

Greidlbeere@feddit.de · 2 pts · 3y

Please don't spoil the races in the title or picture. Just make a thread like "austria gp discussion". Everyone who watched it knows the results. Otherwise I'll have to leave this community I'm afraid.

humantorchbankloan@lemmy.world · -9 pts · 3y

first time watching F1?

ilovesatan@lemmy.world · 35 pts · 3y (4 replies)

Spoiling races was the one thing I hoped we would leave with Reddit. I mean, considering the current state of F1 Max winning isn't really a surprise. That doesn't make it okay. When/if Lemmy supports Spoiler tags, I hope we can enforce this rules for at least the first 24 hours after a race.

spookex@lemmy.world · -2 pts · 3y (3 replies)

Nah, the argument here is the same as it was before.

Couldn't watch the race? Stay off of the F1 discussion board until you have watched it

Olap@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 3y

There's literally nobody adversely affected by spoiler free titles. And the benefits are people don't have to re-follow - why would not do this?

itsprobablyfine@feddit.uk · 4 pts · 3y

The problem is it appears on all so it can't be avoided unless you go full blackout

ilovesatan@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 3y

There's no "staying off the board" it pops up on your feed when you're subscribed. It's like you don't know how many of this works. The only way to avoid it is to unsubscribe. Which I did.

Reeposter@lemmy.world · 16 pts · 3y (1 reply)

There were as many 5s penalties as in normal league race in f1 game on RedBull ring with rigorous cutting setting lol

humantorchbankloan@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 3y

huh

Rob@lemmy.world · 15 pts · 3y (1 reply)

Wow, that was a lot closer than I expected! Leclerc only finished about three seconds behind Verstappen!

soviet_cosmonaut@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 3y

Hah. Poor Leclerc

mephiska@lemmy.world · 14 pts · 3y (9 replies)

I’m going to have to leave this community. Living in the US I watch these races on time delay. If mods are going to spoil races like this in my feed, I’m out.

narc0tic_bird@lemm.ee · 1 pts · 3y (4 replies)

Is it possible to mark a post as a spoiler with Lemmy yet?

narc0tic_bird@lemm.ee · 2 pts · 3y (1 reply)

I personally don't care in case of Formula 1 as I watch pretty much all races live, but can't blame people for browsing Lemmy before watching a race. These posts show up in your "Subscribed" feed without going to the community specifically.

mephiska@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 3y

Exactly. Lemmy/kbin am hopefully implement spoiler tags and mods can hopefully mod it better.

damirK@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 3y

Maybe NSFW so it’s at least blurred

Some really great racing in the midfield, really highlights to me that the track matters so much for good racing

Too many street tracks so far this year has made it feel a bit of a snoozefest

bhmnscmm@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 3y

This track really produces exciting racing. It's nice to see it'll be on the calendar until at least 2030.

ChrisFhey@kbin.social · 9 pts · 3y

Can we not do this whole ā€œX wins the raceā€ thing please? Or at the very least use a generic title without spoilers. This shows up in the /all feed and spoils literally everyone who can’t watch the race live. (Even though we kind of know who will win these days)

FiskFisk33@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 3y

AH SPOILER
...okay, maybe not really a spoiler

ksm1467@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 3y

Poor showing from alpine after their investment news. They're sooo inconsistent.

ryannathans@lemmy.fmhy.ml · 5 pts · 3y

Spoiler got me too, though I'm lowkey glad redbull are still winning because at round 2-3 I slapped a 19:1 bet on red bull to win every race of the season lol

Determinator@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 3y (1 reply)

Great weekend for Norris and glad to see Leclerc on the podium. Max was once again untouchable to the surprise of no one.

MaxVerstappen@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 3y

It was nice to see Charles smiling again.

What happened to that last 5 second penalty for Perez? Does that take him off the podium? The gap to Sainz was less than that.

Grdtrm@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 3y (1 reply)

It was just a black and white flag, no? Not a penalty

chaoticeden@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 3y

Yeah it was only a black and white flag.

Fantastic comeback drive by Perez. Hope it gives him the confidence he’s been lacking as of late.

TheDom@lemmynsfw.com · 1 pts · 3y (1 reply)

Also second week without a horrific Ferrari strategy fuckup right? I wonder if that bodes well for them in the future.

saltesc@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 3y

Carlos' car didn't erupt in flames this time, so that's a sign of moving in the right direction. His defence on Perez was excellent too. A deserved podium spot for them.

HeartyBeast@kbin.social · 2 pts · 3y

Might it be possible to put spoiler warnings in the headline? This showed up in my /all feed and I was going to watch the highlights on TV this evening

999@kbin.social · 2 pts · 3y

I'm just glad it's over and I don't have to listen to Hamilton whinging about everyone else's track limits

So much for the idea of anyone getting closer to Red Bull!

igetzerobread@lemm.ee · 1 pts · 3y (2 replies)

I think its track related tbh, Aston generally has better pace and Mercedes too

igetzerobread@lemm.ee · 1 pts · 3y (1 reply)

*better pace than today not better pace than RB

y2cwr2005@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 3y

Yeah, I think Aston will be stronger on the high speed circuits like Silverstone, but might have McLaren to contend with too if the upgrades work

igetzerobread@lemm.ee · 1 pts · 3y

I swear to god if this mclaren performance was only track related...

Hoping next weekend is just as good for them

Really fun race, Lots of action! Max with the third stop and hearting up his tires a bit before smashing the fastest lap was insanity. Strong drive from Checo ā€œThe Intimidatorā€ Perez as well! Will be exciting to see how Norris looks in this upgraded McClaren in his home Grand Prix with how rapid the car looked today

How are Red Bull pulling in this kind of performance, and not cheating? How the hell does one team execute so well and the rest of the grid is not even in the same league? Geez.

Meloku@feddit.cl · 7 pts · 3y

Same with Hamilton before Verstappen, or Schumacher before Hamilton. Outstanding car + outstanding driver = dominance.

quinten@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 3y (1 reply)

Mercedes fan? Just curious.

CataclysmZA@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 3y

Long time, previously a Schumacher fan and I supported Mercedes when Michael returned there.

bhmnscmm@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 3y

Max going for the fastest lap at the end shows how confident the team is in their dominance in all aspects.

klenow@kbin.social · 2 pts · 3y (1 reply)

My guess is they found a loophole in the regs. They're doing something that is technically allowed, but was never intended. You know the other teams have been pouring over everything they can to find any violation.

CataclysmZA@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 3y

If Newey or Horner writes a book covering this period one day, I'm definitely reading it. We need to know!

SolNine@lemmy.ml · 1 pts · 3y

I would like to know this too! That car is entirely in another league from everyone else!
