Edit: How curious. From the text body in the OP, the link to the current instance's link to the post itself, be it from The Brain Bin, Ani Social, Piefed Social or Lemmy Today. But if I paste without https://*/ on Ani Social, it comes as plain text, while with it, it comes as a proper link.
Not familiar with Master System games, but played the ROM version of it from GOG, and it was pretty fun. However, it is a puzzle game and a slow burner on top of that, so maybe that's what puts you off?
Not a mod, but if I was to post, I see no rule against it, and from the fediverse softwares I'm familiar with, both Lemmy and Mbin have spoiler hiding features, and Mastodon propagation only shows the attached image when available, the title and the link to the original post, so I wouldn't think there's any major risks.
DRM free multiplayer? What sort of abomination is this? (sarcasm)
Jokes aside, hopefully it helps setting a precedent. Hate the view that even some alleged DRM free stores have that multiplayer that can't be self-hosted isn't DRM.
Have yet to test any, but since GOG generates a new entry for the game on one's library with the mod pre-applied, I would presume at least the mod manager part wouldn't be a concern as it wouldn't be present.
Testing something from this alt...
