A week before Pride last year, my town was dripping in rainbows. The march is this coming Saturday and I have seen maybe 4 or 5 in town and all on businesses, people are nervous .
We've decided that we'd rather not risk marking our house out and aren't putting one up either.
17 years ago my husband and I were visiting a friend in Nova Scotia to see if we wanted to move here (we did) and she knew Dan Blenkinship and arranged for a private tour of the site, so we got to see the money pit, 10X and had tea with Dan and his wife. A great experience to have after reading about Oak Island as Brit kid
My kid refused to believe me when I told him that I grew up with an electron gun in the house that fired accelerated particles at a screen, he stated that simply couldn't be safe and no one would allow that.

I've just finished The Terraformers by Annalee Newitz.
I thought was an interesting discourse about urbanism, capitalism, gender and environmentalism. It fell a bit flat in parts, but the ideas around personhood and responsibility were thoughtfully done.

I bounce between being angrily out and worried about the safety of my family.
I'm not worried so much about the politicians here in Canada, I don't believe that the the alt right rhetoric will win them government, but I do worry about the nutjobs they will inspire to act out violently.
I noticed this year that while my town was drowning in rainbows this time last year, there are maybe 2 or 3 on businesses and I haven't seen one on houses this year.
So, sadly, m'husband and I have agreed that there will be no Pride flag on the house this year and we'll walk the pride march with a careful eye on the protesters who will turn up.
