It's more about the atmosphere then the action. I'm one who played it multiple times as a child. The off putting nature of the story and environment including the sanity system was cool. I liked how we moved forward in time with each chapter seeing how the horrors persisted and how each protagonist dealed with them. The rock-paper-scissors combat was pretty simplistic though.
