That misses the public transport options which are nonexistent on the US (for most practical purposes) for answering which one is "doing better". From the way people drive, we'd all benefit from not being forced to own a car if we didn't want to. It should be a premium/luxury product not a necessity for being part of society.

Me running Linux does not make me feel better when I have to run a pre-compiled binary from some (currently liked) company, valve could do better on this particular instance. How many people will actually run using the fully open source drivers? I'm guessing not most since it's not the one valve provides (unless I read that wrong).
While I agree with your points, when your typical electric bill is $201 vs $75 compared to the city literally down the street because the one you live in sucks ai bros dickaganda, resources matter a lot. It's literally millions of residents overpaying for electric resources because of this bullshit.

Unrelated to code, but still relevant: due to having to read about the importance and origin of chicken before getting a simple temperature and time chart for oven cooking, I've gone back to paper recipes and referencing those old cookbooks.
