I feel VVD starting to believe his own hype too much. Maybe the injury, wanting to be at world cup also, but he was hardly ever dribbled past before last season. I'd go with Trent, long runway and could drive him to the next level.

Perhaps I'm misremembering or rose tinted glasses for the moment, but I feel like previous pre seasons have been dribs and drabs of returns then fielding lots of youth in the pre season games early on. This year should be a couple of solid 11s with some youth mixed in. Big names, big time players already back training together on day 3.
ASM at times looks all flair and limited end result. He'll score you a worldy now and then. Barnes outscored him 13 to 1 last year albeit with ~50% more matches. Assists 5-1 in favour of ASM.
In 21/22 they played a similar number of matches (35 to 32 in favour of ASM) and Barnes outscored (6-5) and outassisted (10-5).
