I found the best thing to deal with a device that won't work...

I'm trying to get the 3.5" adafruit touchscreen working and it's being stubborn....

So... I went outside and split a large pile of logs.

Problem still not fixed, but I feel a hellofalot better

Playing around with it today, I've found Moode works fine...except for the 3.5" touchscreen... it literally turns off the power to the screen (which is showing a CLI login prompt) when I enable the WebUI.

Notneven heard of konstakang, so I'll check it out.

Nice.

I've had a lot of problems with Pi Zero W(2?) falling off the wifi.

Not sure if it's because I'm using them for bluetooth presence detection, so they're scanning all day... but it's put me right off using them for something like music.

YMMV

Yeah, I installed it again yesterday...

Seems really unintuitive after the initial setup steps (which do a good job of walking you through the initial setup), so I did bork it up once.

I think the hardest point for me is that it's based on Tiny Core Linux, so I can't install anything else (ie even tmux), so I'm having issues with getting the touchscreen working.

I'll try Moode today...

Ooh, good point about Home Assistant / Music Assistant... I hadn't considered that.

I have HA running the house, and really, I just didn't see the point of Music Assistant when it first came out... maybe worth re-visiting. Not looked to see if that can stream remotely, but I guess it's possible ...

I just hope you've got backups πŸ™‚

Seriously though, we found an old Dell server at work that hadn't been rebooted for years.

We knew that it was fine whilst it was running, but the stress of a reboot would finish it off with all those POST fan speed tests, RAID array tests, etc.

We took as much data off it that we thought might be relevant and rebooted it.

1 drive failed immediately. 1 fan must've had all the dust as that blew out a cloud during the fullspeed test.

A few days later more drives started failing and it just gradually died.

It was actually a sad day when we powered it off for the last time. πŸ₯²

Not a direct answer for you, but a different approach.

Psychologically the carrot is better than the stick, meaning you'll keep fighting the lock-out mechanism, eventually resenting it and removing it.

Having an alert to remind you that you wanted to stop will be more pursuasive. (I have a "go to bed" alarm with a gentle, gradually increasing volume on my phone)

What's even better is tying a habit you want (eating, going to bed, etc) into another habit which already exists, but obviously, I don't know you well enough to suggest anything specific, but perhaps something else happens near those times you want to stop and that'll help?

Not all the books, no. I read them more years ago than I care to remember, but I got bogged down in (I think) Children of Dune and never finished... (probably about the time I got my first serious girlfriend...) must get around to re-reading the books.

Like @filcuk@feddit.uk I'm waiting for the next film... but, after seeing a trailer recently, I just have this feeling it's not... quite...as good as I hope it will be... dunno, I'll still go watch it though 🍿

To counter the risk, it's advised to block UDP port 623 at the network edge, rotate factory-issued passwords during provisioning, disable legacy or weak options such as IPMI 1.5, restrict BMC access to a dedicated private management network, and apply network access controls to ensure only approved administrative systems can reach BMC interfaces.

Seems even IPMI 2.0 won't fix this either

Keep your BMCs OoB...

I was covering for a colleague on holiday last week, but now I'm covering for 2, so I could have 50 people needing my help this week...

Oh and a manager wanted "an update", worst meeting I've had in a while... one of those that stick in your head and later on you think of all the great things you should've said.

Apart from that... all good 😁

Birthday parties... ah I miss those (my daughter's grown up now)

Dune... that's a hellofabook... then you'll have to read all the others next. But there's (obviously) so much more in there than the films... enjoy!
