I cannot tell you if that is a bug or some setting. I can just show you how it looks for me using Jerboa with the card theme. The only bug that I am experiencing sometimes is, that the app shows the content of the previous page I was on when clicking something.
It will need an active core community especially in the beginning, I think.
One worry I have regarding niche communities is, that duplicate communities might spread the user base.
The whole lemmy concept mixed with the current situation feels far more like you are part of a real community. Kinda like in old internet days. I will even break out of my reddit lurker days and try to contribute here.
