Lemmy is designed to scale horizontally, which means that it can grow infinitely large. As long as the server owner has the funds and is willing to pay for beefier servers the potential of a instance growing is massive. This however does come with it's fallbacks. Moderating that many people can be very difficult, also if not many folks donate to keep the server up then it fails. If you see yourself using this site long term I'd highly consider donating to your instance!

Some instances of Lemmy disable certain things. If you are on Beehaw (like myself) they disable downvotes, and the creation of new sub-communities.

I agree with you. Standard tactics with this sort of shit. Say you'll do something outrageous and when folks get mad enough roll back your plans enough that don't quite fuck over users as hard. Repeat ad infinitum. Users think they've won but in reality they've given up another inch.

I'd like to build a NAS. Does anyone have a simple guide I could follow? I do have experience building my personal computers. I could search online for a guide, but a lot of the time small communities like this will have the end-all be-all guide that isn't well known.

Boost is great! A lot of the 3rd party apps are lovingly made. Stinks that Reddit decided money was more important than a user-base. But now we have Lemmy, which hopefully won't even be able to be like that.

At the end of the day AI should be classified as what it is, a tool. We could embrace this tool and use it to our advantage, or we can fight it all the way up...even as more folks start to use it.

Absolutely nothing wrong with that. Speaking of which I'm starting to feel comfortable enough suggesting Linux as an OS for folks looking for a PC. It's nice, because it really brings old PCs to life. If say my older parent wanted a computer I could buy a decent used one and just slap Mint on there and it would suit their needs.

The dev of Jerboa based it off of Boost for Reddit. The only way you would get an exact copy is if the dev of boost decided to move over to Lemmy. Doubtful, but possible.
