What's up? Not Grafana. I did docker compose pull on the stack (without version pinning) then recreated the containers, and now it's fucked. Or maybe it's not because the logs are fine but it only serves the web app but 404s on any connection to the Grafana backend.
Now I need to do some investigation into any recent changes to try to work out what's going wrong.
This does seem to be a little bit of an odd announcement. They are announcing that they are going to let teachers use reasonable force, which is already the law. When asked what's different they have basically said they will explain later. So what are they announcing?

I don't think we can or should ignore that our larger cities, the land can be damn near half the cost of the house. If we want to make new houses cheaper, that's a good place to look.
But also this article highlights that instead of self-inspection, we could have made it a lot faster by having them pass inspection the first time. If they can do it right the first time this means fewer inspections and should also cut down on the wait for an inspector to come and check.
I also wonder if were gonna start seeing houses advertised for sale as "passing council inspection" vs these "trusted" companies who have not been inspected, and since a large proportion fail their first inspection surely a house that has not been inspected is worth less due to the higher risk of not being built properly?

That part of the island has a volcano in the middle that is the same kind of volcano as Mt Fuji, but it's surrounded by a national park so was a better filming location than the actual Mt Fuji because it looks more like Mt Fuji did in the time period the movie is set in.

Since the cost of running a council is increasing significantly (it seems mostly due to catching up on a lack of infrastructure investment), it seems highly unlikely that rates will do down even if you valuation drops relative to others. You would be lucky to pay the same next year as you're paying this year given councils are putting rates up 7-15%!
With regards to other effects on home owners, as I alluded there are potential issues that could arise if equity goes negative.
As far as I'm aware, the effects of negative equity in NZ are generally going to be about your ability to borrow more money unless you're selling your house. You'll likely struggle to get another loan at a decent interest rate, but banks aren't in the business of selling your house after a big valuation drop while you're happily making mortgage payments.
I dunno, data entry isn't mentally demanding in the same way as some jobs, but that doesn't mean it isn't demanding. You're expected to enter at or above a particular speed, and it can be boring which is a different kind of mentality demanding.
If someone bought a house they live in then it lost a lot of value, it's unlikely to significantly impact them except in some specific circumstances (which mostly revolve around them trying to sell).
Also a general drop in the market won't impact rates for the same reason that the housing market doubling in value doesn't double your rates. The council doesn't get income on the whim of the market, they decide how much money they want to spend first, then they apportion the cost to households based on the relative value of houses to each other. If everyone's house goes up or down in value on the same scale, it doesn't affect rates. You pay more or less based on the value of your house relative to others.
Because the council's expenses rise every year, rates will continue to rise even when house prices fall.

Honestly, if I could have that experience she had I'd be pretty happy with it as a second phone. Ultimately I haven't been able to source a supported phone and the three spares I have are not supported by any linux phone OS I've seen (and they aren't that unusual. One is a Pixel 7 pro, ones a Samsung S10+, and one is some sort of OnePlus, a 4 maybe?) They are all flagship phones but I haven't found any linux phone OS that is supported.
I'll have to investigate @Antigrav@mastodon.nz's suggestion of a full Linux OS, though that's not going to be the same experience it might be fun to play with.
