You should adopt political ideas based on whether you agree with its principles, not based on how many people agree with it.
I really think there's more appetite for change than some people think. Everyone is fed up with the way the system is, and it's only going to grow as the multiple crises we face intensify. Once people realize en masse that "socialism" doesn't have to (and in fact shouldn't) mean government domination, it could put capitalism in real danger. We're already seeing groups like the DSA gain steam.
