My layout is inspired by the Neo layout(QWERTY version). So i have my arrow keys setup like they are on layer 4 of the neo layout. Which means arrow keys on "esdf", home on "a" and end on "g". The addition of the home and end keys next to the arrow keys feels very natural.
An absolute bonus of using neo inspired layers, is that you can easily have those on "traditional" keyboards as well. Simply set the keyboard layout to the "neo_qwerty" variant of the "layout" on linux for example and enjoy proper layers on your integrated laptop keyboard.
I also have two Ferris sweeps. My error was that I bought 3 pin switched, which wont sit right in place without a case. 5 pin switches(those with the 2 extra plastic pins at the bottom), will sit perfectly fine and straight without a case. So if you have 3 pin switches, that could be the problem with the "bad looking grid".
I currently have a silent one with Gazzew Bobas and a loud one with Kaihl Owls.
My favorite currently is Basic Fantasy. But I don't know how well it is for solo play.
One where the core rules are free and which has solo play is Ironsworn.
If i get the license right, this doesn't really qualify as open source. Its source available.

Ooooh, i really like the magsafe idea. Seems like a more versatile version of the tenting puck.
Would propably get a bit boring if we would play the same games every time, so we try to shake things up every now and then. :)
For the last onFOSS where we played pixelpusher i created a Dockerfile so its easier to host the server. It supports up to 32 players per game.
We were roughly between 5 and 15 people, depending on the game and such i would say. We didn't keep track. But no matter what, feel free to join! :)
Yes, propably. Or i think something like this would work fine as well: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5192069
(sry for the late reply)

Edit: If you search the Basic Fantasy Forums you'll find quite a lot of solo stuff as it seems. For example: https://www.basicfantasy.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4093
