Given that the US was wrong in the series of events highlighted here, you could at least correctly portray what occurred. The Maddox fired warning shots on a perceived threat and received an aggressive response, resulting in a skirmish resulting in Vietnamese casualties.

From there in the following days, the US completely fabricated an attack on their ships. These outright lies were used to escalate posturing into a war.

The US was absolutely in the wrong for everything Vietnam. There's no reason to misrepresent events to establish this.
