The original The Thing is not a remake. I just recently watched the 1951 movie and it is very different from Carpenter's version. Both films are loosely based on "Who Goes There?" by John Campbell but they are independent interpretations of the source material.
Same. I bought wireless Sennheiser headphones around 10 years ago and I don't see myself buying a different set anytime soon. I just replace the pads every couple of years. They are still on their original batteries too.
I did something similar when I last visited the US ~15 years ago. I uploaded an encrypted backup of my phone to a server in my home country and reset the device. I then downloaded and restored the backup when I arrived at the hotel.
