Saw a metastudy a few days ago that concluded that current research suggests that too much protein (particularly when you don't exercise) can actually be quite harmful and shorten lifespan. Though we mostly have data on rodents because studying diet long term in humans isn't easy. It also varies based on the specific type of protein.

Shits complicated but daily protein shake with a diet that also contains a bunch of protein could very well be not the best idea.

Given that that part seems to be about long term relationships I don't see an issue with it. If you're not willing to do that for your partner you're not someone I'd want to be in a relationship with.

Though I agree that isn't really the solution because it's probably the one context where it actually happens with some frequency and it really needs to be more of a thing in just male friendships.

What I remember is an interview where she said "I should have been born a boy" or something to that extent.

It is all too easy to see how you can fall into the TERF mindset as a transmasc in denial because it probably makes about as little sense to her why anyone would want to be a woman as it makes to me why anyone would want to be a man, therefore anyone who wants to transition to a woman must have ulterior motives. But it really shouldn't be a high ask to have a modicum of empathy to realize other people just feel different lol

So true, by not using an acronym i have never heard of in my life until just now, that i don't know what it stands for as opposed to ccp, I'm outing my ethnosupremacist tendencies. I am also very likely to start using this other acronym with no explanation because some random commentor on lemmy said so!

I'm not the guy you replied to but how disconnected from reality do you have to be for that statement?

People still throw random festivals, make art and spend time interacting with others. I'd absolutely not rather spend 40 minutes gathering berries than work 40 hours a week if the latter means I have a heated home, modern amenities, a computer, no worries about having enough food, etc.

Those things sometimes not being given even with more work is a fucking problem, especially since it's only to make the rich richer, but gathering some food for yourself does not give you access to all the other things that other people made that you use daily.

They're not trying to trademark those. Others can call their default apps the same thing and it's fine. Others can't call their default in house browser chrome (unless they're google).

Dying from disease or accident is normal and called living. The ecosystem issue where they aren't native is very real but keeping wild cats caged in an overpopulated shelter is nothing short of torture for them (it's probably bad enough for domesticated cats). And I don't see how just killing them would be any better for the cats (tho arguably for the local ecosystem that would often just be the overall right move). Claiming to want to do either out of love for cats just seems extremely misguided.

Many urinals do have dividers. But also it's just not an issue, everyone is there for the same thing and no one is looking anywhere other than in front anyway. I very much like them because thet mean I don't have to touch a public toilet seat, plus they're the reason there's rarely a line on the men's bathroom.

I probably activated showing nsfw somewhere in settings (which many people might want to do anyway since a lot of things that aren't straight up porn get labeled nsfw), and it's definitely noticable that the all feed at least on .world has a lot of porn after a bit of scrolling, most on specific nsfw instances. This would likely be less of an issue with more users, but as it is I can see a benefit to having instances defederate the nsfw ones - ideally this would just be something listed in the description as well so people can choose (idk if it is, I haven't looked at any in forever).

Got one of those as well. I knew that pw was in multiple data breaches though. The concept preys on the fact that many people don't know how passwords are usually acquired and think it means someone has access to their pc.

That really depends on how much is stolen.

If margin is idk 30% then losing 3 sales to prevent 1 stolen item loses you money, assuming you account for the stolen item at what you paid for it rather than the selling price (which makes sense unless you expect it to sell out, i guess you can add a bit for storage+set up cost but that'll be near nothing for a single item).

Is anyone here aware of the concept that you can both take some personal responsibility and attempt to change the system?

Changing the system sufficiently WOULD result in many of the changes people could make on their own already. You don't have to be the perfect sustainable human being in a society that doesn't care. You also don't have to be the person driving 3km to work in a car instead of using the perfectly fine public transport or bicycle infrastructure. There's a middle ground.

I don't want to stand up for him, I want to stand up for prisoners as a whole. It's ok that his conditions improve if everyone elses do too, just like a bunch of other vile pieces of shit would have better conditions. And no one remotely on the left is going to rally behind him specifically.

But it does mean that him crying about it changes nothing because my stance has been the same before.

Imo people should strive to be better than average for where they live. Leads to continuous improvement. Never make the mistake of trying to be the end goal society needs to reach while everyone else is still far away, the mass of changes is important, so you'll just make yourself miserable and not save the world anyway.
