After early "distro" on floppies that wasn't really distro, the first one I really used was Debian, then I used Ubuntu and Mint, then MX for almost 10 years now. All based on Debian.
I'm using MX on my work PC that I use daily, update every day, never broken.
About the same, I have an old netbook HP Mini 311 with an Atom 270 or something, it came with 1GB of RAM and winXP, I installed another 2GB to have 3GB, worked fine, then installed MX Linux with Xfce, even the nvidia GPU was working fine in it.
For fun I tried to install win10Pro, it worked!!! was basically unusable, but it booted to the desktop.
Isn't a light switch 99¢ or less especially if you buy a pack of 10 ? This does not justify a $200/month increase if you WFH like I saw in an ad. I wasn't sure it was a joke or not

On a regular PC you could have SVR4, BSD, Minix, things like this, then linux came, in the 90s we had no CD, we downloaded the floppies images from ftp on the university server, then rushed to home to install linux on a 486, we did a lot of compile ourselves, no choice back in time. I used some distro after, like Mandrake (I'm French) but always liked the DIY thing, but it was more and more complicated and long... this is why I started using Debian in the days...

Yup, same, years ago I used all the google apps, chrome, gmail, pay, keep, contact, clock, etc then bought a Samsung phone so every apps were kind of duplicated with samsung pay, samsung internet, samsung agenda, samsung gallery, samsung clock etc. And if you use google clock for your morning alarms, samsung app killer will kill it during the night and BAM! no alarm the morning. I ditched it and bought a Pixel.
