We've discussed this possibility a little bit. All I can say is we're going to do our best to read the room and do what's best for the community. We'll probably have more discussions internally before we make the final call.
edit: I think the big issue is there isn't a lot of role models for this kind of migration. It's been a clusterfuck for everyone from start to finish. I don't think any of the other mod teams expected the protest to fail this bad.
That's equally true. I guess the main apprehension is that it'll confuse a lot of people who's first experience with lemmy is "register on this other site, then put the first site into the search bar so you can sub". Ultimately we just want to ensure it's not a shitshow.
This is certainly true, and I'm aware of this. But our community isn't tight nit and passionate as others - we fear that if we go somewhere with closed registration, very few people will make the jump.
I actually really want a Teal'c show that's just him going around the galaxy solving crimes. I unironically think it would be a great way for Amazon to revive the show for new viewers.
The Russians are beyond parody. They like comparing themselves to America a lot, but at least when America demilitarizes someone, they actually follow through.
Honestly, the show creators should be ashamed with how they underutilized the Tok'ra. They were given no cultural depth whatsoever. The show alluded to things like "How have the Tok'ra, with all their technology, been fighting the goa'uld for thousands of years and made no progress, but 10 four-man teams under a mountain can do it in their spare time in a few years?" but never actually made any effort to answer them. "We have a plan" became sort of a running joke - the steiner's counterattack of the Tok'ra.
Eventually they had to pivot to intentionally portraying the Tok'ra as arrogant, incompetent assholes because they failed to portray them any other way.
They had so much opportunity to delve into things like the ethics and practical effects of only accepting hosts who essentially have to sign on to dedicating their life to being a member of the alien taliban, or how relationships work, or why the Tok'ra never had any harcesis children, or how they handle the effects of constant host replenishment on their reigning political ideology, or the differences between born-tok'ra and goa'uld converts, or how they envisioned society being after the fall of the empire, or 100 other things.
The tok'ra were wasted (along with the goa'uld to be honest) and it drives me up the wall.
Me normally: Freedom of expression is important. Not all media has to be ideologically pure or reflective of reality
