1/4 of a century ago I went to a Somerset cider farm. It had apple trees and a big apple press and great cider for tasting. Out the back though they had hundreds of drums of apple juice concentrate made in Israel.
Graylog is excellent for rummaging about in log files. Client side you have to install rsyslog and one universal config file to forward all the logs to a central server. Gralog server-side has a GUI where you can set up email alerts by basically setting up greps on stuff from every log file on your whole network. Some advanced functions of graylog are behind a paywall but I have never needed them.
#Ubuntu has snaps which are a really annoying way to distribute software updates. I was a long term #Ubuntu user but have moved to #debian, with #Kde if I need a GUI instead of that horrid #gnome rubbish. All the third party software I use works just as well on debian as it did in ubuntu.
Try a min guillotine, just big enough to snip their nose off.

Snaps only work on ubutnu based distros. Flatpak apps are what you need for multiple distros.

Graylog is excellent for catching all the logs from different system and filtering them according to your tastes into email alerts.

As a kid I learnt P = I2R ; P = IE ; P = E2/R by careful selection of resistor values stuck across the 240V house supply and standing well back.
I just use file systems that compress behind the scenes. Over the wires I might use a -z option if I am in a hurry.
I am not an American citizen, neither am I in America. I can help with IT skills if you know where I can direct them.
