I’d spent forever hearing about how good Popeye’s is. Apparently the one near me is an outlier because I’ve given them three chances and was insanely let down every single time. Maybe one day when I’m passing by a different one and I have the urge, I’ll try again at a different location, but for now I’m sticking with KFC for the chicken sandwiches (and the fries… KFC honestly has some of my favorite fast food fries and they’ve been consistently good every time).
Hilarious that Huffman openly admitted that Reddit “isn’t profitable” (somehow) and they have to squeeze 3PAs out to try to make up for that, but apparently they found spare funds in the budget to pay spambots to keep reposting content to keep things from going barren.
Shit like this is why I switched to a third party app a while ago. I used to have the official app on my phone because iOS and everything I remembered seeing as far as 3PAs went was all for Android before I heard of Apollo. But the fact that I was seeing “posts” like this every three-or-so posts, and the fact that they were all over the comments as well was just way too much.
It’s exactly why I will not go back. I have like three niche subreddits saved that have no real equivalent in the Fediverse and I’ll only check in on occasion. Through Old.Reddit. With a browser that has an ad blocker built in.
I had wanted a Deck for a long while and finally used this sale as my excuse to go for one. I figure it’ll be nice for being able to play games while lying in bed or on the couch since I spend enough time sitting at a desk most days for work and don’t really want to spend the evening also sitting ay a desk. Also arrived at the perfect time yesterday, so I was able to change out the SSD and get everything reinstalled before a leg surgery today that 100% means I won’t be able to comfortably sit at my computer for the next two weeks at least.
Reddit gets to hold these up as examples of reasonable developers who were willing to work with Reddit, unlike those crying babies that are closing their apps.
This deserves to be repeated. Like… I get why one would want to not let their project die, but we all know this is exactly what’s going to happen. These few who remain will funnel a ton of money into Reddit’s pocket for a worse experience all so that they can be used to further slander the devs of the 3PAs who were forced out from the API changes. In a couple months when the last few 3PAs inevitably go under, I don’t know if a single tear will be shed because the writing on the wall is so obvious.
I’m conflicted on it. I want one, but I’m not sure exactly how much I’d use it. I have a PC that I built a few years back, but at this point I spend so much time sitting inmost a desk in front of the same screens that I feel like I’d be more likely to play stuff if I could do it on a handheld while laying on the couch or something. But also I don’t want to spend the money on it only to find out I’m wrong about that….
From what I had read, it seems like it’s done by letting people command AutoMod (or a different bot account that has Mod access to the sub) in the comments, similar to how people would use the RepostSleuth or RemindMe bots. So unfortunately, this probably dies when the API gets murdered at the end of the month.
I started watching while Matt Smith was the current Doctor. However, I watched starting with the 9th Doctor and watched the seasons in order. Tenant’s 10th Doctor is and forever will be my favorite though.
That all said, it’s been a while since I actually watched any of Doctor Who. Watched into early Capaldi and then kinda fell off.
Same here. Ran a script to edit and delete all my comments yesterday. At least cleared out the 1,000 that Reddit saves in your comment history. I’m not deleting my account yet in case they decide to mysteriously restore my comments.
Conspiracy theory: what if Reddit is using it’s not army to make a bunch of dead/spam accounts to try to make Lemmy instances more expensive solely to try to price them out of their space so they can then turn and point to how “Reddit alternatives aren’t viable/stable.”
On one hand, that’s obviously stupid and not true. On the other hand, I can see Huffman being petty and malicious enough to do something like that.
Except that it wouldn’t fix the fact that a lot of 3rd party developers are done. Even if Reddit sacked Huffman and rolled back the API changes, the odds of Apollo, RiF, Sync, etc. developers coming back is basically zero after all of this.
And now that they’ve shown their hand with the mods, the odds of getting their good mods back are slim-to-none as well.
They’ll just restore it if you nuke it. Better to make the sub NSFW so they can’t make ad revenue off of it and set it so that all posts must be mod-approved, then only approve like one post every month so you can show as still being active.
It’s a third party Reddit app for Android. One of the many that are getting killed off by the API changes. A lot of people liked it because it has a much better UI than the official Reddit app and I’m sure plenty of people will love getting to bring the same experience over to Lemmy now.
I’m admittedly jealous. I’d love if Apollo pivoted to Lemmy as well but I don’t blame Christian at all for taking a step away from things after becoming the face of the 3PA developers in this entire debacle. Hopefully at least one of the several iOS Lemmy apps currently in-development can provide something familiar.
Being “bound by law” barely matters either. They’ll do it anyway and just pay a really minor fine and continue to do it anyway.
Well yea, they don’t mention the fediverse because none of the oligarchs that fund their employer own it, so they have no reason to promote it at all.

Because presumably not everyone who is exposed to it get cancer. Just because it causes it a lot of the time doesn’t mean it’s guaranteed.

I feel like “traffic” is also easy to fake. People can drum up an army of new bots and suddenly the “traffic” is back, even if actual people aren’t.
