I felt exactly the same way about Rimworld when 1.6 released after a wildly long time on 1.5. I’d just got it set up on a newly rebuilt gaming pc, and did all the work to manually download, install, and sort new copies of about 1,000 mods (not on steam, refuse to use it for anything other than finding mods - I've since found rimsort which has workshop access and steamcmd built in, along with some other sources I haven’t explored, which is swanky af.) and then 1.6 dropped which would break literally all my mods because they changed how the game runs, and..

I just said absolutely not and left it at 1.5 for a long time while I continued to play my perfectly good functional game (do some games not let you choose to update or not, not the ones mentioned cuz I read the article and know its optional, but any? If you -can- choose, why does this even matter? Fomo?). I recently updated everything, now that I have rimsort for the mods, and.. yeah game is almost exactly the same, and runs the same, but some of the mods are built in now. And they added birds and water plants I guess. Yay. Taking two full days to set everything up again was so worth it… Most of it is junk I’ll never interact with, because the modded stuff I’m used to is superior. I haven't even tried to go to space, that crap isn't what I’m playing for (ridiculous base building and hoarding is, and “spreadsheets and warcrimes: the game” is exactly my jam for those two things).

A lot of the newer mods are considerably better, though, so there IS that..

Not difficult at all, just longer posts. Everything else is exactly the same as if tou installed it 3-or-whatevers-standard foot from the ground.

As for tornadoes, they don't happen in most places nearly as often as certain places in the US, just due to how they form and the conditions necessary, so largely irrelevant to most of the world. But beyond that, being near, but not on, the ground doesn't offer a lot of help in tornado force winds for something like solar. It’s likely to get damaged regardless how tall it is.

Aktchully, the ideal height to install solar for max benefit for plants is also high enough to allow for large animals and people to pass right under them! (This isn't really a new finding, tbh)

It’s about 6 foot off the ground, or higher, and well-spaced. This allows sunlight to reach the whole ground as the sun moves, while still providing adequate shade to reduce plant burn and soil drying.

That is the most relatable justification for a relatable comic I have ever seen.

I’m the person who can’t go on a hike, because I stop too much to look at stuff and tell everyone with me all about it if they say no when I ask if they know. My hikes turn into leisurely educational nature strolls.

I had one with a similar story, he taught the rest of my cats that inside is better, and that’s even been passed on to the newest cats even tho he’s not around anymore. Nobody wants to go outside, even on leash.

My cats sit by the glass storm door and watch me go through it. Not a whisker twitch to move. They are inside only and have no real desire to go out. All my cats have been like that. They are spoiled rotten and know it. Not willing to give up a good thing.

Neat, I support this effort big time.

I was so paranoid when I got my memorial tattoo done.. it’s in Latin, and my Latin is not awesome.. I did weeks of research and was very confident I had it right, so I had my prof take a look and somehow I did indeed get it right, yay!

I was paranoid because my first tattoo was supposed to say one thing in Japanese, had the right character on the stencil and everything, and the artist fucked it up figuring I wouldn’t notice, and it’s not a word at all. Thankfully it’s covered unless I’m naked, and nobody who has seen me naked can read Japanese..

Unfortunately I’m so rusty on all my languages I won’t be much help, but I’m for sure gunna lurk!

Presumably yes.

But for a bigger picture question, are all of those others able to interbreed with each other, as well? If yes, they are basically like different races of human or breed of domestic animal. If not, it gets much more interesting in terms of classification.

The takeaway that I got here is basically that even a burner phone can hypothetically be linked to you, if you take it home with you after a protest. And if you aren’t using a burner phone, they can get so much granular historical data about you that your whole life is laid bare.

And zero warrants required, because of course this needs to be abused as much as possible.

What do normal people even do about this sort of thing? Flock cameras at least can be disabled or hacked, but this? We don’t have access to cell towers nor the ability to choose which we connect to, we don’t meaningfully have the ability to opt out of data tracking.

The illusion of choice is even more illusory than it seems.

Even if there was real choice inherent in the systems themselves, most people have limited ability to take advantage of said choice without completely starting over, usually with damn near nothing.

What I mean is most people aren’t wealthy, they don’t have in-demand skills, they don’t have family abroad, they can’t get sponsors to other countries. That means they are effectively stuck wherever they are, until something so bad happens they have to abandon their lives and flee.

I agree with you but it’s a minefield. And the goalposts shift. For example, one time I was leaving a bar after stopping for food on my way home from work. I brought a comic book to read as a signal I didn’t want to chit-chat. This took place in the parking lot, with a guy easily double my age, and I’m no spring chicken.

“Hey baby” (yelled from halfway across the parking lot)

“Not interested, thanks.” (Said dismissively)

“Bitch, I don’t want to fuck you!” (Said extremely aggressively)

“Not interested in a conversation either!” (Said in singsong)

“No wonder you are here alone, cunt.” (Intent obvious)

Like.. no shit? I made myself unavailable for a reason, but even minding one’s own business isn’t enough to escape abuse.
