As a British person I agree with your second point. Everyone should use Greenwich Mean Time which is obviously the correct time. Even if it means that noon is in the middle of the night for some people.

In the UK in the 1970s we were shown cross sections of male and family reproductive organs and copied pages out of a textbook about the essential mechanics. Democracy is only appropriate when the society in question is willing to accept the results of a democratic vote. If divisions in the society are so ingrained that this doesnt happen, then democracy doesn't work.
