Man, this was literally as simple as "Oh, wow, wasn't aware this guy was a turd" and put a PR up to remove or change the quote. Resisting this at all makes it look so much worse. I do think that the DHH controversy is a little overblown but certainly any reasonable person can see that an endorsement from this dude is not something it makes sense to advertise.

I do sympathize with being a maintainer and fielding mob requests, like honestly who actually cares about a quote on the web page. I do think a lot of folks whip themselves into a frenzy over basically nothing, and this feels like an example of that - that he made WAY worse by not just immediately addressing it. It's not like people were going full torches and pitchforks, but this dude immediately reacted so defensively.

Your body isn't storing more fat at a calorie deficit. Sure, if you eat all your calories at once, a lot of that will be converted to fat if your body doesn't have an immediate use for it, but you're going to burn more fat than you gained overall as long as you are consuming less energy than your body needs on a daily basis.

Losing weight is literally a physics problem. You need to just eat less than your body needs and the fat will come off. You just need to make sure you're having a reasonable amount of protein so your body isn't cannibalizing your muscles

Man, i can't deny that you have a valid point, but from a practical standpoint: does it matter, if it makes you happy?

I was never on the fence about wanting kids. I had a shitty childhood and my guiding purpose was always to rectify that by making sure my kids grew up with the support and resources they needed that I didn't have. And I sacrificed a lot to make that happen - while all my friends were enjoying their 20s, I was grinding my career, hard, to make sure I could pull it off.

I wouldn't go back and change a single thing. Yeah, the early years sucked. Yeah, it was a huge risk either way for my wife. Yeah, I could have traveled more or used all that money for stuff for ourselves. I think what I got instead was infinitely more valuable.

I'm sorry that we live in a bullshit world where financial constraints even make this a problem for people. Having kids should be a slam dunk easy decision if it weren't for those implications, and modern medicine has drastically lowered infant and maternal mortality (not enough to trivialize it, but it's not killing 30% of women like it used to).

The volcano is great, one of my favorite purchases ever. That said, anyone claiming it doesn't smell might have a skewed frame of reference. It won't stink up your apartment as bad as smoking for sure, but vaping flower absolutely smells like pot and it will be very noticeable if it's your daily driver and/or your landlord visits while you are using it. If it's just occasional use you may be fine but honestly this thing will become a daily driver. So fucking good. Makes pot last forever, even when my tolerance is high my wife and I can split a half gram and be sent to space.

Their portable dry vapes might be more up your alley. The Mighty is also excellent, but I haven't tried their smaller models.

Can you explain to me who is harmed by laughing at this hilarious roast?

How small your problems must be to waste energy clutching these digital pearls.

I don't feel that simply mentioning a product name is necessarily product placement. That said, this example is hilarious. It sounds like AI writing having trained on podcast sponsorships.

I think when the 'product' is something relevant ro the plot somehow it's best to just rename it, because otherwise it's gonna sound like an ad. But a character ordering a Coke at a restaurant or whatever is fine IMO.

Calling these turds out for being dumbasses doesn't mean we're defending Netflix. Netflix sucks. These guys suck. What is happening to these guys is hardly the result of Netflix's actions.

What I DO see a lot of on Lemmy is a lot of immature black-and-white thinking where the bad actions of one entity are used to assume that the opposite side are the good guys. Calling out bad behavior does not absolve the bad behavior of their opponents.

Yeah, probably. You invade a country without a good reason ans kill civvies, why wouldn't retaliation be on the table?

You don't get to invade a country and maintain any sort of moral high ground. Israel, the US, Russia. It's all the same shit at the end of the day. But Tmthe US sucking doesn't automatically make their opponents the good guys. Russia sucks too and you would have to be a completely brainwashed moron not to realize that.

I can understand being frustrated here but how do you not realize how much worse you are making it by making this post?

This is going to happen every once in a while, every recruiter, hiring manager, and HR professional should know that. If it happens a lot it's because your interview process sucks and you are everyone's last resort if better jobs don't pan out. This happens much less frequently to employers people actually want to work for.
