Lemmy has a growing toxicity problem. More extreme users seem to be taking over as reasonable people get fed up, bullied, and leave. Even minor disagreements can get ya labeled a Nazi or fascist.
Recently I saw a post from one of the Lemmy's bigger bullies complain that even he was tired of the toxicity and thinking about leaving.
Lemmy used to feel open, diverse, and welcoming. Now many people seem determined to punish anyone who disagrees with them, which is ironic because that's the same kind of authoritarian crap they claim to oppose. Your case and what is happened to you is a perfect example of this. Even in this thread, someone called you a fascist. It's crazy!
I've been a professional artist for over 15 years, dude. I've had gallery showings. Nothign about me is "lazy now" because I still start my stuff with my own ideas, sketches, color choices, compositions, and paintings, and I still physically paint every day. Sometimes I feed those into AI and enjoy seeing its interpretation. So “AI-assisted” is the better description than “AI created it.” I like to play around and see what it does with my own stuff and how in interprets it. I doubt very much that the early abstractionists would have shied away from ai.
But hey you keep on hating. I'll keep having fun and doing whatever I want. Because what I do isn't motivated by you or anyone else liking it. I do it for me. :)
Abstract” art based on a series of rules and models to create it. Kinda defeats the purpose and definition, no?
Not at all. I've been a professional artist over 15 years. Abstract art has never meant “random” or “without rules.” A huge amount of abstract art is built around deliberate ideas: color relationship, balance, repetition, geometry, rhythm, proportion, negative space, etc. Look up Kandinsky, Mondrian or geometric abstraction, some good Bauhaus (my fav in college) artists.
Abstraction is moving away from literal representtation and using shape, color, form, and composition

EDIT to further clarify:
Having said all that, I don't really follow those rules because I'm a Refusalist and my art_anti-art doesn't owe you beauty, meaning, labor, skill, or explanation. But I just wanted you to know that for many in the art world, abstract rules exist in a somewhat vague form.
I think it might be a good idea for anti-ai people to just block dbzero if things don’t change.
Or just block the communities they don't like. Why are you suggesting someone block the entire instance, just because they may not like AI? That seems silly.
And in relation to OP's post, it is becoming a bigger pattern overall on Lemmy. I'm seeing a lot more bullying behavior, calls for violence for the simplest things, and just really ugly stuff. Lemmy has always had some extremists, but I have noticed it's increased lately. Gods help us all when it gets closer to US elections time!
And then as the regular types leave because of the toxicity, the extremists/eccentrics stick around and start to be more and more excessive.
I don't wanna go off topic, but even here in this YPTB comm, I'm noticing less and less civility and just open blatant bullying to people who disagree.
Luckily the mods and admin here are awesome and do a great job of removing the really bad stuff pretty quickly!
Yeah, it's a stalker I've had for almost an entire year now. He's actually started several posts in this community and claims I am someone else.
He thinks he can bully me off of Lemmy. He can't.
I'll DM ya for some fun notes, and give you the reasoning why I mod the way I do. If we discuss here, it may be removed as off-topic. I won't bore you, but it's an interesting study about some of the more extreme personalities we have on Lemmy.
I haven't. But I'll look into it. Basically for my system, it took me forever to find something that worked on it, so once I got everything working and my worklow, I just stuck with it. But I'll check some of the newer stuff out! Thank you!
In fact, I burn my Lemmy accounts after about a year and start fresh, specifically to avoid any accidental buildup of info that could be used to dox me. I even use red herring info in my “personal” posts.
Exactly why I host my own. Not under this username though, because I'd get defed'd by most of Lemmy. LOL My stalkers don't know my instance name or username there because it doesn't interact with this username at all. haha
Everyone should own their own. To be clear tho, mine is totally a $5 VPS from a racknerd black friday sale held together with Docker Compose and prayers. But I only have 6 active users, who are all my friends, and I won't allow more, so all good!
grow reptiles of the mind when presented with the smallest amount of authority.
Exactly what happened to me. Yesterday at McDonalds drive-thru, employee told me I was gonna have to wait while fresh fries were made. I immediately replied with, "I mod a community on Lemmy! Don't you realize how important I am? Do you realize how many downvotes I get because I'm 'Lemmy-famous'? My name alone makes people angry! They don't even have to read my reply. I have Lemmy stalkers! That's how important I am! I shouldn't have to wait for fries!"
She then asked me what a mod was, what Lemmy was, then pointed to parking space #3 (by the trash can) where I had to wait for my fries.
Freshly made McD's fries are awesome tho, so it all ended well.
As moderators can you just make other people moderators of a comm without their input?
Yes.
I was just about to make you moderator of my comm, but then I decided that I didn't want to share the everlasting glory and glee of banning someone simply because they annoy me. Would you dance and clap right after you banned someone, like I do? Would you run out into your front yard and yell out, "Ha! My kingdom in Lemmy is mine and mine alone!", like I do?
No, I don't think you would. So I decided against it. But I may change my mind later!
Here's the photo of original sketch and layout that was basis of this. It was a concept I thought of a bit ago, but I never got around to updating and actually painting. Painting is expensive so I go through a lot of concepts before I actually put something on canvas.
So this never made it to canvas, but it's made it to AI! All hail our Lord and Savior! May my Slop be Forever in the Cloud!
Sorry you’re going through that. Honestly, someone who keeps creating new accounts just to follow you around and harass you is showing a pretty miserable kind of fixation.
I'm sure you're not first person or thing they’ve become fixated on either. That kind of behavior is a pattern. I have the same type of stalker following me around too. Their lives revolve around resentment, obsession, and finding somebody new to focus on.
We’re better off than they are though! They waste hours thinking about us, while we just shrug and keep living our lives. They'll spend the rest of their lives unhappy and being fixated over the tiniest things. They will never be happy.
Why are there so many bullies on Lemmy lately? I'm seeing it a lot. It's been happening to me too. Just let people do their own thing instead of pissing and moaning about other people's interests.
If you hate AI art so much, then being banned from an AI art community shouldn’t bother you. Your account is only six hours old, and it looks like you created it mainly to stir up drama. All because someone likes AI art and you don’t.
Lemmy lets people create small communities around their own interests. You don’t have to like every community, but that doesn’t mean you need to troll it or start arguments over its existence. If you don't like it, block it, shrug, and move on. If you find yourself blocked from it, shrug and move on. Why are you all being so angry about it?
@MysticMushroom1776@lemmy.dbzer0.com, I think you're awesome and I'm happy to support your communities. I just added some art to your Stable Diffusion Witches, Stable Diffusion Furry, and Stable Diffusion Abstraction communities!
I'm sorry you're going through all of this.

Looks like the mod got removed from that community as a result of this
I'm so sorry that happened to you.

Sent. It's boring, but you'll notice the pattern.

My original drawing that AI used for reference:
I'm so sorry that happened to you.

As long as I'm a nuisance to trolls and their many alts, then I'm all good! So thank you!
Trolls will never win. 🤣
YDI.
