It's a serious security hole cause the software can be updated through network, the version gets audit and all the follow up update can be good, but the moment it needs to go rogue you just need 1 malicious update to have serious and wide spread harm/attack on a button.

IMO for any vehicles to allow over the network update is beyond stupid. (yes, that includes Tesla.)

Good stratagems against it, don't expect everyone can follow if you don't have a pre-made party. (as there are host/players just want to complete the mission and ignore this bullet sponge.) For killing it:(150k health)

  • Orbital Laser : high DPS, with burning damage.(don't know the multiplier yet, waiting for data miner. but big enemy usually have higher fire tick damage. )
  • Orbital Gatling Barrage: AP5 so throw at the ground where it emerge belly side), high enough DPS, you should be able to land almost all shots(9s duration) because the size of it.
  • ATE(anti-tank emplacement): if someone can escort you it offer very good AT rounds(30) and damage.
  • Patriot Exosuit: 14 AP6 rocket @ 1250 damage. If you have a friend one bring Emancipator Exosuit that can shoot a lot of shots(200) @ 300 damage when any of the armor is blown off. Exosuits are really good dealing with tunnel situation, but do not walk on the bridges, as exosuits will collapse them.
  • Commandos: slightly higher damage 4 shots than EAT, shoot and forget.
  • Portable Hellbomb: long cool down and some mission objective does require it. you usually can't get close enough to get the max damage if you are not close enough when it emerge, as it has certain range around it's root that cause tremor and hard to walk closer. (bomb max damage range is 25m after 25m the damage fall off pretty fast. )
  • Recoilless Rifle: if running with a friend with assisted reload + resupply backpack, you just need 47 shots. a full RR + resupply back pack gives you 7 + 3*4 = 19 shots. supply hellpod pack can refill "full" ammo if you have the upgrade(Superior Packing Methodology) so make sure only the guy have that upgrade calls supply pod. thus a supply pod has 6*4 = 24 shot. if you have the resupply back pack ready to drop before you engage, you can kill the hivelord in about 3~4 times it emerge from ground. 19 shots + 24 shots + another 12 shots from new resupply backpack fills. (resupply backpack do not benefit from that ship upgrade.)

Pretty much the system ram : vram ratio should be about 2x to have some wiggle room(both for OS and other things running in background). most of previous gen GPU have 68G vram thus 16G is kinda standard. But now with GPU heading toward 1216G as standard(for non-flagship), 32G would be better so game can hold more things in system ram before they stream upload to GPU.

So encrypted, periodical interval to mask out any incoming/out going variance in traffic I wonder how they mitigate the backend part as there might be a ton of wasted traffic to hide the actual traffic. since they obviously need a lot of users to hide the whistle blower, but that also mean their backend needs to be pretty smart to handle lots of traffic and still consume energy to decrypt and then throw away the "noise" data.

there is a demo you can play now, don't know if it gets removed after the fest finished.(edit: checked, it's not available tomorrow after fest finished.) pretty basic combat system, don't know if they are gonna extend better. (not likely cause they release in Sep)

I don't disagree with what you said and usually nintendo game has better version 1 than many other publishers that requires GBs of day 1 patch. Basically, their game is pretty broken and only past the certification to send to gold. But that's "in the past", I am just saying that we should not rely on past experience when comment about the current polices and trends. If nintendo is moving toward key cards, even if it's something pushed by other publisher, we can and will see the impact of this for other platforms' physical sales.

This is basically the 2nd round of push to pure digital and that's nintendo's attempt.

I've joined one of the Steam Dev Days conference in Seattle. It's around time where people was still doing things like cross buy etc. (so buying the game on website unlocks both steam, dev's own drm free version, maybe even console version.) I do not know if any of the actual developer term is updated after that time, but during the conference, one dev asked question exactly like this, can he sell his version without the 30% cut from valve if it does not going through Steam while giving away the steam key for free. The answer is no.

During the time it was explained that if you sell on different platform, that gives better sale %, steam can also impost that sale % on it's platform. At the time EGS was still not a thing but people asked about can they have different price on different platform, I think the answer is also no or not recommended, as they can request you to match say the base price of itch.io but they don't mind if that sale and software never use anything from steam. They specifically mention if any steam feature, like invite steam friend is used, then no, even if your game are not downloaded or use any steam distribution feature.
