Or as a young man in the navy, being told to make sure to act right in foreign countries...."you'd never want to have to deal with their legal system."

It helps morale, and makes stress easier to deal with, and can build solidarity. Several years ago, in a situation where me and 131 other people were waiting for our imminent deaths, and were powerless to do anything about it, some people were freaking out, some sat in silence, and others of us joked and laughed about the situation. I actually asked one of my friends if he'd like to retake an exam, so he could maybe pass it, and sue with a better grade. He really bombed an exam badly, the day before, and there obviously wouldn't be time for other remediation. He he told me to fuck off, we both laughed, did a "cheers" with our half empty coffees, and finished them off.

I was one of the laughers/jokers, but when the situation changed, giving us hope of survival, the laughing and joking went silent. Hope brought the stress for the rest of us. Obviously, we survived (I'm thumbing this missive out on my phone). I've been married over 20 years, have a couple kids.

I have to start looking for something a bit lighter than Ubuntu for my old Toughbook CF-30. I had Mint on an older laptop, years ago, and liked it. I'm not opposed to any flavor of Linux...I just want easy, the closest thing to issue/maintenance free, while taking full advantage or the specs I have to work with.

The crappy thing, is that while they plan on a possible collapse of soceity, they could just as easily plan on what to do about all the displaced workers created, by all their technical solutions seeking problems.

MTG IS astoundingly stupid. Boebert couldn't manage to complete high school. Noem seems to think Habeas Corpus is the name the orange guy gave his "kick anyone out" croquet mallet. Just 3 among many, of the losers who seem to be in charge right now.

I'm a leftist GenX whose served aboard 3 nuclear submarines, over a 20 year career. Ive slept between ballistic nuclear missiles, on top of torpedoes, mines, and tomahawk missiles early in my career, but later, switched to a standard bed (rack) on the boats..can I reflect and make a fuss?

I switched to Linux after my experience with Windows Millennium Edition. Many people have since referred to me as some sort of programming genius and hacker.....I don't know crap about any of that. I've simply followed instructions and referred to the help communities, whenever I've had trouble. Using the mainstream distributions (I'm guessing) has kept me from having much trouble.

I think my kids may benefit, as my wife only uses Mac, I have 2 Ubuntus and a Mint, and the kids use Chromebooks at school. We have 2 iPad and a Galaxy tab in the house. 1 kid has an Android phone and the other an iPhone. My wife and I both have flagship Android phones.

Sometimes it's fun to watch them debate over which systems they prefer, depending on the school projects they work on.
