How long do modern EV batteries last? I'm not sure we have any definitive answer yet but I can tell you as someone who recently purchased a used EV with 60k miles on it, I am amazed at how well the battery still performs. From what I can tell, I've lost maybe 10% of total battery capacity from brand new. I'm now at just over 70k and haven't noticed any material impact of battery degradation. I won't be surprised if I get to 120k or more miles before I need to think about a battery swap or rebuild.
It's the "temporary" power plants that are stood up to feed the massive power demands. These are usually gas turbines that are not environmentally friendly at all.
If only there was some way to store excess power generated during the day for use at night... Oh well, guess we'll just keep burning oil and destroying the climate.
Cvts usually use a torque converter (which is a type of clutch but distinct from what you think of as a clutch when talking about a manual transmission).
2013 VW Golf-R - it's paid off and runs like a champ but I'm looking forward to replacing it some day with something like a used Tychon. Never buying an ICE car again with any luck. I love the Golf-R because it's fast enough to be fun but still somewhat economical and handles well enough as a daily. It gets me around town and up to the mountains without any trouble.
That sure is part of it but don't forget about voters. Even with all the gerrymandering and other sh*t, he does actually have a base of real supporters who can and do vote. Now the question is, how does he have supporters? I think the general answer is for decades if not generations, the Republicans have been systematically destroying public education, presumably because it's much easier to trick an ignorant electorate into voting against their own interests than it is to trick a well educated electorate. They have been preparing for this for a long time... To really protect our democracy, we must invest in our population - and specifically in education. We need smart, critical thinkers to take this country forward.

I've been in a very dark place myself a few times. Knowing that my wife is and will always be there for me is the only thing that gave me hope for the future, even when I was at my lowest. I don't know what you're struggling with but I can tell you from my own experience, the darkness is not permanent.
