Friend here: They weren't abusing Me. Actually, I got better because I (voluntarily) got someone to borderline-abuse Me for some extra tough love. Doing a hell of a lot better now. I'm all for being kinder to yourself, and I needed to do that too, but sometimes you really just do need a kick in the pants
I would agree with you in theory, however I am the same age as Half-Life 2. I never got around to playing it until it was already an old game (11-12? MAYBE 13). I played other shooters before, like various CoD games, Bioshock Infinite, etc., but they never clicked with Me. They obviously took great influence from it, every shooter did, but I could tell even as a kid that they didn’t do it as well
I don't know about DIS, I've only seen the first episode, but the characters in Starfleet Academy act like college students because they're college students
