True. Now you've got me thinking of ways to identify and prevent accounts from scraping data. I don't see any way to do that other than rate-limiting, which just delays the problem rather than solving it.

It seems to me that the only reason Meta would embrace ActivityPub is so they can federate and scrape our data from the fediverse. Not only would I not use their platform, but I would block my instance from federating with them.

Yeah, that's what it's looking like. It's a bit concerning because the Lemmy devs didn't have to do it that way. They could just mark content as deleted and then zero-out all the fields to default values. I wonder what their reasoning was for not doing it that way.
