I've been reading Finkelstein's book about Gaza, and it's really struck me pretty hard how the major difference between the situation 20 years ago and now is how the media landscape has changed. It's pretty clear to me that all the bluster about children on social media and ID verification is just an attempt to return to those days.

You love to see it. These fucks are so used being world bully that they never bothered to consider that Iran would be able to meaningfully resist. I'm assuming that they started believing their own propaganda about the Middle East being "backwards" and other racist, orientalist drivel.

You're not as strange as you think, but I have a sneaking suspicion that you're still quite young (20s?). Your 20s are largely about trying to fit in and following social conventions - you do all the things you think you're "supposed to". As you hit your 30s, you stop caring so much about what other people think and what other people have told you that you're supposed to do and start figuring out what you want to do. A big part of growing up is learning that there are no "rules"; you can eat candy for breakfast if you want, sing in the shower, be an absolute cringe goblin - sky's the limit so long as you're not hurting anyone.

Finding a partner to avoid being alone is a terrible, terrible idea for all involved. Learn to enjoy your own company first and figure out what you actually want your life to look like, then you'll be much more likely to find someone going the same direction. Figure out who you want to be and take the steps to becoming that person. Be unapologetically yourself, and you'll find people who like you for you, which is absolutely preferable to trying to fit yourself into a tiny box of what you think you're supposed to be and earning the admiration of people you despise.

As some other commenters have mentioned, investigate whether you may be neurodivergent, because you'll be much more able to make sense of yourself and the world around you with that knowledge if you are.

Will these people ever stop taking their product names from The Lord of The Rings? J.R.R. Tolkien's corpse could probably be set up to generate power from all the spinning he's presumably doing in his grave at this point.

"Israel" needs to end. Pack up all the settlers and ship them back where they came from, and hand the land back to the Palestinians.

I literally just bought some Hexclad pans...I guess I'll try to avoid using metal utensils on them regardless. I did use a Caraway pan before and I can confirm that those do not last long at all - absolutely avoid those.

Most women and girls participating in Tile IX sports are not at an age where they are actively trying to get pregnant, and I am not aware of any study showing that sports participation in one's teens leads to fertility problems down the road. I therefore suspect that this is more about forcing ever stricter gender conditioning than anything resembling a health mandate. After all, plenty of women simply have no desire to have children in the first place, so why should they be barred from participating in sports? This obsession with fertility sure sounds like compulsory childbearing is just around the corner.

I'm assuming you mean transition to socialism, as no one has achieved or claimed to achieve communism. Look at how much Cuba has accomplished in spite of the embargo. They have more doctors per capita than any other nation on earth and even developed their own COVID vaccine. That they are suffering so much now is due to the crimes of the US, not any internal reason.

As always with The Atlantic, there is not a single mention of class in the entire lengthy article. These movements away from the written word are not happening in a vacuum and cannot be divorced from the further concentration of wealth in the hands of capital. Capital has decided that it would rather we be idiots (or dead, even better) than pose the risk of a communist revolution. They are all-in on AI because they want to make the worker obsolete; they want to live in luxury without having to pay anyone, and when they have achieved such a feat, they'll cull the rest of us like the cattle they think we are. It's a pipe-dream of course, but it's still up to us to resist before climate change does us all in.
