Taking Vegetation of North America instead of Physics 2, as a science elective, was one of my worst college choices. Forestry students had multiple classes that overlapped while the handful of us CS majors simply had to wonder if the TA was messing with us when they picked up a twig in class and asked "what tree is this from".
Those numbers are accurate . I really don't understand how more people I work with haven't retired. I made sure to avoid too much lifestyle creep but I can imagine it's addicting for some. I'm 40 and making the switch out of tech soon. I couldn't imagine doing this another 10-20 years.
Depends. I have worked at publicly traded large tech companies and RSUs have been very lucrative for me. Some years my total compensation has been 60-80% from RSUs.
Check levels.fyi. 400-500k+ isn't unusual for senior and above positions in US HCOL areas at competitive tech companies. Often this includes RSUs which can have downsides but are usually ok
I had the same "well technically" thought at first but destroying that much infrastructure will result in some immediate deaths and mass casualties later. So maybe not technically genocide but in reality it's close.
The problem with tech is that you aren't usually doing the thing that made you want to go into tech. For me this was creating things and solving interesting problems. Most of my days are meetings, dealing with clueless people and having to deal with leadership and product team changes that ruin already completed work. Thankfully being at large tech companies has enabled me to hopefully retire in my early 40s. I can then continue with tech in a way that is meaningful to me while also spending a lot more time outside. The PNW is beautiful and I intend to see much more of it .
Same for me. I was directly responsible for automation of AI infrastructure builds. It was miserable and I felt terrible. I transferred out of that org but now I'm writing software using the tools created by our AI infra. I made a lot this year due to equity increase and maybe next year but I want to be out.
I'm at 6x6 with 2 redundant but am approaching 17TB used with 1 drive in need of replacement. Do I need 6x20? No. Is that what I'll probably get? Don't judge me.
I can't say if I like them but I do put them in smoothies, overnight oats and other meals/snacks. I don't really notice them so maybe I do like them.

Agree. I have a soda stream and it's great. I do buy the syrups occasionally (sugar free) but there are plenty of other ways to add flavor.

I wish every company would adopt quarterly vesting. Yearly vesting schedules are obnoxious and can really screw people over.
