The city has little to do with the power. The power company (NIPSCO) is not restoring power because the residents are poor and black and the power company knows there will be no repercussions from Indiana's Republican government.

This is also probably something of a trial baloon from the network state crowd: can we just start shutting off essential services for "undesirables"?

Why would the trains be cleaner? Are they cleaning them more than the old ones?

The new trains in the Midwest are a disaster, unreliable, uncomfortable seats, harsh lighting.

Also they have half as many bathrooms as the old trains so the bathrooms are used more and are dirtier as a result, they frequently break. There's even a automatic door with no manual override that locks people inside! I used to love taking the train but not anymore.

Hope these are somehow better than the Midwest trains but probably not.

I'm not advocating for shooting people but I'm also not going to be polyannish and "why can't we just hold the bad guys accountable."

The truth is in our current situation the bad guys hold all the levers of power and appear completely unwilling to give them up. It reminds me of the JFK quote: "Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable"

One really goofy part is you don't have to prove as an employer that you can't find a domestic worker to apply for an H1-B. You do have to "prove" you can't find a domestic worker to convert an H1-B to a green card.

Like, under the law technically you have to fire your H1-B worker and replace him with a citizen, and only if you can't find a citizen can you convert him to green card.

This is kinda bonkers and leads to all the fake job postings with weirdly specific requirements. They basically take their worker who has already probably been working at the company for 6 years and copy-and-paste his resume in the job description, then fake advertise the role, to "prove" they can't find anyone, because if they do find someone that means they have to fire the person instead of getting him a green card.

It makes far more sense to make a company prove they can't hire a citizen before allowing them to hire a foreign worker, rather than allowing them to hire but then making them go through a kabuki theater fake recruiting process to convert the person's status.

If he's not a complete idiot (and he appears not to be) he'll inch away from Israel while staying in the middle of the herd of congressional democrats. From what I can see from his wikipedia he's doing just that: supporting the AOC/Bernie "offensive weapons" nonsense, then inching away from military funding altogether after being given permission. He's also from New Jersey which is a state with more support for Israel among democrats than most states. Finally he's not up for election for 5 more years which is plenty of time to "evolve."
