Excellent article - thank you for sharing it. I was familiar with the post Civil War “crisis” or masculinity because men weren’t “battle tested” but I wasn’t aware of the other historical echoes. At any point in history society is always on the verge of collapse because the kids are heathens and the world is evil. I do wonder about this conference in regards to mental health. I can’t imagine that they were encouraging men to talk about their feelings and seek help. I would love to be wrong.

The bits of them psyching each other out were the only good parts of the episode. The rest just felt like they put all the supporting characters in a room and said, this is enough.

I can’t even imagine how deep fakes are going to proliferate, challenge the very basic concept of reality, and the impact that will have socially. It’s happening soon and it’s going to be monumental.

The legal aspect …. All of that will be painful for Judicial systems around the world to grapple with. I don’t think we are really held to the terms and conditions on half of what we sign, since it’s not really informed consent but I may be wrong on that.

I thought this episode was a shaky start. I’ve noticed that black mirror tends to fall back onto existential horror/multiple or never ending consciousness which at first was very effective but it’s starting to become expected. I enjoyed the episode and I liked “our Joan” (fictive level 1?). Smart devious and creative. Salma Hayek was okay, she’s the same in every role but it works for her

I have a set of circular needles with interchangeable needles and lengths of wire/nylon. It all fits in a little case the size of a small notebook. I have a second set of sock size ones that are a bit sturdier and have steel needles instead of wood/bamboo.
