This behavior is related to the 80% Charge Limit feature. In the current software build, the device charges at normal speeds until it reaches approximately 77%, at which point it transitions to a lower current to reach the final 80% limit.
While this may result in slower charging speeds near the limit, it is intended to manage battery health and should not impact normal device usage. We are currently working on optimizing this user experience

i'm on grapheneOS, but I also feel like my battery went to shit sometime mid march. it also started taking forever to charge from 77% up to 80 with battery optimization enabled
it is not, OP states in their blog that they use a cloudflare reverse proxy (probably a cloudflare tunnel) to secure the fmd instance, but you can also just not expose it to the web and use a VPN to access it on your home network :)

led lights almost always run off rectified, smoothed supplies, so no flicker. i have one cheap old crappy bulb that doesn't, and i can definitely perceive the flicker. it's almost nauseating.
