Yeah, it can get messy, depending on which data source youāre looking at, or if one article pulls from multiple different data sources. But I agree, any increase in coal use is a bad thing, and certainly no one should be building new coal plants, and we should be retiring existing coal plants ahead of schedule.
Seeing the recent news that renewables has overtaken coal for global energy supply makes me happy, but thereās still so much work that needs to be done.
Iām not arguing that coal use isnāt growing. Rather, Iām saying that the assumptions researchers made when making the RCPs, about the availability of coal and the rate at which its use would increase, do not line up with what actually happened. As well, the price of renewables has dropped faster than was previously expected. So Iām just saying we shouldnāt base our understanding of where we are and where weāre headed on outdated and flawed models.
It is broad, yeah. And I canāt speak for everyone, but speaking from my own experience, I certainly resent that my parents made that decision for me. Especially given that thereās no medical reason for it, I donāt see any reason why someone should violate someone elseās bodily autonomy like that.
We are not still on track for RCP 8.5. That pathway was based on continuing growth in coal use that was seen in the early 2000s that didnāt continue. And the dramatic drop in price for renewables and batteries is already having an impact, and the energy transition will continue. (Whether the US likes it or not.)
Iām not trying to pretend everything is fine, itās absolutely not, but we need to be realistic about what our trajectory is. Right now, I think weāre on track for 3C by 2100, closer to RCP 4.5 or RCP 6, which is still awful. But it shows that we have made progress relative to 20 years ago, and there is still plenty more work to be done. Every fraction of a degree matters, and Iām not throwing in the towel yet.
If you want your child to resent you for mutilating them with unnecessary surgery without their consent, go for it. If you want to be a good parent, donāt.
No, I voted for her, just like I always vote for the Dems. But I also understand why she lost, and the Democratic partyās tendency to blame the voters rather than self-reflect is exactly why weāre in the situation we are.
Maybe, just maybe, the Democrats will someday realize that political parties are supposed to stand for something other than āwhat are you gonna do, vote Republican?ā
If people didnāt vote for you, itās because you didnāt appeal to them. Donāt blame the voters for not liking the shitty options presented. Actually represent the people, not the donors and consultants, and you might get some traction.
No. But I try not to cling too hard to that belief. There may be supernatural things that I havenāt experienced or seen evidence of. So I donāt actively believe in the supernatural, but I wonāt rule out the possibility either.
On one hand, fuck landlords. They have plenty of money to do these upgrades. They just donāt want to.
On the other, more practical, hand, combining a carrot and a stick is probably the most effective way to actually get this done. And, to be fair to Mamdani, his proposal is much better than Cuomo or Sliwaās ideas on Local Law 97.
In a hypothetical future, I think using āexcessā renewable energy during the day to run electrolyzers to make green hydrogen makes sense. Iām not sure how hydrogen stacks up against methanol or ammonia fuels though.
A few hours. My employer feels itās important that I sit in front of my computer in their building, rather than in my home.
Cheers š» and I appreciate it, but itās all good! Itās a reasonable assumption to make, given the context

Yeah, thatās fair

This article is a few years old, but it gets into the weeds about RCP 8.5, if youāre interested: https://www.carbonbrief.org/explainer-the-high-emissions-rcp8-5-global-warming-scenario/

Edit: also, not a boy :)

Not that I had a reason to go there before, but now Iāll definitely never go to Iowa. Goes on the list with Florida and Texas.
Sink it is, then.
Ah yes, I definitely went full MAGA.

Kamala, begrudgingly. Just like how I voted for Biden and Clinton. I live in a swing state, so I felt like voting tactically mattered.

Welcome! I love your outfit š
I completely believe that. Actually sounds like a pretty tasty way to keep down pests and have an additional income stream

God damn it, Framework, cmon
Iāve hated myself for long enough, no more. If people hate me because Iām trans, thatās a reflection on them.
