That said, the Frame is the first electronics project in the last... 10 years? that I've been anticipating the release of, while theres lots of signs of life (more games Verified for Frame, more shipments) some of the news makes the realise itself feel very far away.
I'm well aware I've invested way too much, personally, in a product launch, but there's no unwinding it now.
social licensing - e.g. Google tries and gets away with X, so the others now perceive they're less likely to receive excessive pushback and are emboldened to go for it. This is why I feel there needs to be a pervasive and continuous push towards consumer rights - smaller cases can snowball quickly in the wrong direction, never so in the reverse.
share price driven margin pressure, a figurative ideal business that balanced perfectly its price/margins/costs against consumer demands/buying power would still be pushed to make graph go up and right - the usual enshittification argument.
The first feeds into the second, once your competitor moves against consumer interests, C suites are/perceive they are then under pressure to match peers, else fall behind.
Screwing over customers is baked into Capitalism, even more so with the current scale and concentration of a handful of business operating in a weak regulatory environment.
I've seen it suggested, and I think it holds some merit, that there might be those in the EU (and accession must be unanimous I believe) who aren't so positive - Spain may not wish to set a precedent for Catalonia walking away and retaining access to the single market.
The other practical obstacle is that like Ireland, Scotland doesn't have a land border with the EU, but does with UK who are the largest trading partner. Scotland entering the EU would reopen a lot of debates around RoIreland/Northern Ireland, which is neatly divided from the rest of UK by the Irish Sea - wouldn't be popular in UK, nor European capitals. Unlike Eire, Scotland doesn't have the option of becoming a floating tax haven.
Personally, I've come round to the pro-Indy position, but its not a done thing that Scotland would join the EU, quickly or otherwise.
Anything that reduces the footprint of LLM's is welcome, however...
making LLM compute cheaper in datacentres won't mean lower total power/cooling/space/water consumption, like adding lanes and traffic, it will just mean more usage as it gets cheaper (and a short-term bump in margins for the LLM owners)
these are still highly dedicated chips that are always going to be bound up in the mega-scale datacentre deployments
what happens if there is a paradigm shift in the exact compute architecture? Loads of junk servers and no applications able to make use of such a glut
these do nothing to push LLMs out of the datacenter and into non-corporate hands, which is the only spot where we might see fewer privacy concerns, less corporate control etc
If we're stuck with the current compute/corporate paradigms, at least alternatives nibling at the unhealthy dominance of nVidia and the cloud giants is some small benefit.
This is looking like a really fantastic feature. Even with a remappable keyboard, there's some limit to the number of layers and modifiers you can juggle without a GUI and this will be available across any/all keyboards used on the Plasma device.

But you shouldn't waste a second of your time feeling obligated to deal with emails sent largely by automated marketing campaigns.
At work I spend time to organize my inbox, its a necessity, on my personal email, I get security alerts & banking into separate folders, that's about it, I don't waste a moments thought on the unread count.
That's great to see, with the cost of living crisis, just arguing green power is more ethical/better for the environment etc understandably doesn't cut through - but making the focus the direct improvement of peoples local area and the above a nice side effect is a great way to get buy-in.
You can store an ssh key in Bitwarden or Keepass(XC) easily enough - Bitearden can certainly be configured as the actual source of your ssh keys with only a tiny bit of config effort

I have lots (100s?) of pdfs for ttrpg rules collected over years - storing in folders is enough to separate by game, but fails when a single book is a mix of content - does it go in the adventure, character options or DM folder?
Having a nice UI with tags and searching would help to organise the collection a lot better.
Accessing all of that across any of my devices while the files actually live on my NAS would a be a big improvement - its easy for my laptop & tablet to get out of sync etc
I just use Nord, its dark, the colours are easy to distinguish and most importantly for myself just about anything I may care to theme already has a Nord theme so I don't have to luck around too much - KDE, Gnome, Folder Icons, Mouse pointers, Terminals, NeoVim, Tmux, tons of command line tools...
