You should check out DarkTable. There's a mac version so you could try it there but it also runs on Linux. (It's what I use and a decent replacement for Lightroom)
What's the option? Windows? Keeps getting shittier all the time. Now with AI Slop and bugs. No thanks. Mac? Their walled garden, making it so you can't upgrade your existing computer? No thanks. My last mac was a 2015 that let you upgrade things but it was a pain. They've since removed that so they lost me as a customer.
With Linux, I have a Framework laptop that let's me upgrade everything. It's easy to take apart, there are hardware switches for the mic and webcam.... it's very user friendly. Linux doesn't have any telemetry. The only AI that gets installed is if I install it myself, it's not intrusive. I've been using Linux for a long, long time but the Desktop experience has been lacking in the past. It's gotten way better recently and the last thing I would boot into windows for was Fusion 360. I spent some time learning FreeCAD and since 1.0 it is way better and now I don't need to boot into Windows anymore. Steam has made leaps and bounds with proton and now I can even game on Linux which is pretty huge. Is Linux perfect? No, but it does everything I need it to.
Shit, this concept is in factorio.... You have solar panels and batteries.... I get that it's expensive at first but come on, it just makes sense. I think wind, solar and hydro are our future.... Trump's chronies just can't make money off it so they make it illegal.
Last time I tried it, it wanted my media in a specific file structure, so I ended up having multiple instances of the same show. I could reorder everything but I got a plexpass when it was dirt cheap so I'm not that inclined to reorder everything.
If I was just starting out, I'd probably use Jellyfin but haven't mostly due to inertia.
I used to use vim pretty exclusively, I've since switched to neovim. There have been a few cases where vim/nvim weren't available but regular vi was and I've used it to edit text files. I imagine there were other editors but I'm so accustom to how vi/vim/neovim does things that I can't imagine using anything else. Sometimes someone will try and convince me to use a new editor and I'll try it but generally end up switching back to nvim. Even vi compatibility mode doesn't really help because I use a bunch of plugins.
Because it's dumb, he didn't make an assassination joke, he made a joke about Trump being old and Melania being much younger, waiting for him to die because he's old and not in great health.
The only thing windows has for it is compatibility with certain software. Fortunately this gets better and better all the time, being able to run windows software under Linux has been great. Steam with it's proton has done wonders for gaming under Linux.
It is 100% separate. I have two heat pumps and no solar yet (mostly because the initial cost). I hope to do solar soon but heat pumps made a lot of sense even without the solar
I have two heat pumps and they will struggle when temps get too low, often not heating to what you might be used to. But I do love them and encourage more people to seriously look at them. I use them to supplement my propane heat which means I use less propane.
I'm excited.... I probably wasn't going to get the steam cube even before the hike in prices for RAM but if this works with Linux and is reasonably priced, I'll probably get it. Hope it comes out soon.
I have a kindle that I've had for ages. It has been jailbroken for a while and I've been loading my own epubs onto it. They make it easy with the 1 click send to kindle stuff but that locks you in to their ecosystem.
I've gotten it to "work" but it's fragile and updates tend to break it. I ended up switching to FreeCAD, it's come a long way and version 1.1 is pretty great.
Raspberry Pi's were amazing when they were like $30.... cheap enough to be accessible to most people and you could do a lot with them. I still have an older Pi that runs pihole.
Now that it's $300, there are a lot of other options out there. I find it hard to recommend a Pi anymore.
